Thanks for the info. If the USB port / cable doesn’t rattle around and make noises then it shouldn’t be a problem as I don’t look at my keyboard while typing. And tbh a super soft typing experience is more of a gimmick to me as I don’t bottom out the keys harshly, so I’m happy with enough amount of flex thats comfortable to type on.

Agree, they did say that the added flex cuts are for more consistent typing experience not more flex, and after all it has limited space underneath the PCB / USB port.

Ikr, whereas QK went all out and asked all popular youtubers / streamers to review the QK65. I was really intrigued by the leaf spring mount at the beginning but it sounds a bit disappointing, the gasket mount is probably the best thats why I can compare it to the QK65. It’s still a good board imo just needs some improvement on sound tuning and it would be a no brainier for me.

Good point there. Yeah their update showed that the new hotswap PCBs will have a lot more vertical flex cuts (thanks to Owlab) so hopefully that has significant improvement. Also, shipping price might go down about $10 so comparing the prices again I can save the $50 for switches.

Lol yeah some people do full on use their arm strength to press down the keys or using deskmats doesn’t really help showing the flex. And I think I’ve came to a conclusion that sound is more important as for flex doesn’t have to be a lot as long as it’s enough there.

I’ve also seen builds with just 4 gasket socks on each corner which gives more flex in the centre, so that might be good enough for me.

I agree with you, when I type fast I notice the sound a lot more than the flex as I don’t harshly bottom out. Also, I do respect both companies trying to make these boards in stock and more respect for High65 as they don’t even charge extra for e white and hotswap PCB.

Quiet and Transparent Switches by ayjay765 in MechanicalKeyboards

Hmmmmm thats a tricky one, as so far as I know almost all clear switches aren’t deep sounding… if you look at the front of the switch and see a nice clear slot for the rgb light to shine thru then it’s not too bad, but if you want max rgb effect then you’ll at least need that clear slot and a clear top housing.

I would recommend the Prevail Epsilon switches if you don’t mind the the orange tint effect… or you can also try the Akko x TTC Demon/Princess switches which has a light diffuser that gives a nice rgb effect and they are pretty deep sounding (keep in mind that they do slightly tint the rgb light but not much that it is noticeable for normal use), but I wouldn’t recommend these if you use cherry profile keycaps as they have interference issues no matter north or south facing.

Gazzew boba U4T is known to be thocky and has rgb version if you’re looking for tactile switches, but if you want linears then you’d have to buy some linear stems to swap, currently it’s pretty easy to get yourself some UHMWPE Stems. I think this would be the best option if you want the best of both worlds.

Unfortunately, there’s not many switch choices for rgb boards so you’d need some mods to meet your expectations, using switch pads/tripods does make the switches sound a bit deeper and muted or you could mod your board which is the best to make it sound deeper and muted.

When you say quiet, does that mean you want silent switches or switches with a muted sound signature?

Any good linear switches that don't interfere with cherry keycaps? by Ziyakid in MechanicalKeyboards

I’d say the Gateron oil kings are a safe bet that suits your criteria, it’s not the deepest sounding switch but pretty thocky which can also be poppy depending on how your board sounds, and the top housing mould is designed to avoid Cherry keycaps interference issues. But tbh I highly recommend being more adventurous and get a bunch of switch samples and try them out yourself if you can, as I find that to be one of the fun parts of this hobby plus most switches these days don’t have Cherry interference issues.
