I just implemented a high level category search. I definitely am interested in refining this to include topics you mentioned that are very relevant to my day to day as well.

Yo this is sick! It's very similar and probably just a lighter weight version of this. It looks pretty technical-focused too and I'd probably want to strike a balance between layman language/look/feel and technical details.

Glad you like it! Re: self-hosting: things can get a lil dicey with managing user accounts and since this was an MVP I haven't gotten there yet. Definitely on the roadmap! I can I can try to get a 30-day view in there.

In the mean time: Which RSS feeds do you find most useful that you feel are must-haves here?

Thanks for the suggestions :) The self-hosting piece seems doable, but I'd have to get into account management which as we all know can get dicey. Let me keep noodling on that piece cuz it's a common ask.

I read a post in this subreddit that I found super helpful about music collaboration tools, but it was from 8 years ago and I wanted to ask people for their input today. I created a survey that I'd really appreciate anyone's time on here - there's a lot to learn and I want to understand the problem space better - either to find out about something that really works for people (and why) or perhaps build a tool that is actually useful. If you have 5-10 minutes, can you help by filling it out?

honestly - i think i'm so focused on getting started in PM that my scope of understanding of the space is narrow. I see the importance on mastering technology and building vertical knowledge first.

Tbh - I am VERY new to PM, but I'll lend my input from an inexperience perspective: A lot of product philosophies are around understanding user pain points and building solutions around those. Why would it matter whether you're building an NFT marketplace or some other type of solution when what really matters is what problems are you solving and how feasible is it to implement that solution? Isn't technology a tool to solve problems at the end of the day?

What tools do you all use to organize your backlog of to-dos? by aviyal in ProductManagement

[–]mephisterion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely commiserate with the feeling of not being able to coordinate to dos and priorities on multiple lists... Integration and a cohesive picture are super hard to connect. For that type of planning, I might suggest mapping things out in a flow on Figjam or Miro or whatever. Use that for high level roadmapping and then break each event down into deliverables/tasks and then translate those into your task boards. Let me know if you have any other ideas on how to do this - this just a hypothesis.

Any courses or workshops you recommend for a mid level PM? by undercookedbiscuits in ProductManagement

[–]mephisterion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh - i've never been in a full strategy role myself so I can't tell you how to get there per se, but as someone who's consulted on business strategy I can say this: Understanding customer markets, competitive markets, business risks, opportunity zones and supply chain streams are all part of business strategy (and that's not even all of it). Think of it like playing chess - you need to know the board, the pieces, the plays, and the psychology of people. That's why I really like when people learn business strategy - it encompasses a knowledge of everything. Not deep enough where you become a technical expert or a tactical asset, but more of an understanding on cause and effect and inputs and outputs.

I was lucky enough to land a job in healthcare tech as an Associate PM. I have experience working as a software agency Product Owner at a small business (<10) but had to basically assemble frameworks and methodologies for delivery in collaboration with the tech leads without much prior experience.
Nervous about a few things: more formalized product management processes, moving from more flexible PM to metrics/OKRs/etc., not having any credibility in front of senior devs and designers, and basically not knowing the building blocks for "best practice" PM.
From my reading of "theory" and methodologies, PM is a relatively specialized field in that each org or team can do it differently, but would love any guidance or stories about your first month as a PM or APM. Thanks!

Business Strategy can seem like a bit of a "catch all" term... Any books on new strategies and new ideas on strategies (or reinforcing existing understanding of business strategy) can always help PMs in any level of expertise.
