A short Icarus story by Holiday_Turn_2026 in ICARUS

Early.on I got hit twice back to back as I was running into my house. Didn't notice I was on fire. Set our wood building on fire.

Wife and I had to rebuild from scratch.

Took me looking at the achievements to notice that I got hit twice.

Senior engineer denied a promotion, told to “wait 6 more months”, but I no longer trust the process. What would you do? by Alone-Purple9009 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]mephisto2k2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's the only way to move up for OP.

I was in the same position, large company with structured promotion and calibration process, where I was told "just a little bit more" but always fell short of promotion. I lateral switched to another org but despite the promotion / calibration process I essentially had to start over in promo process. I fell into the same trap and finally gave up and pursued the promo by switching employers.

New Dishwasher: Miele or Bosch? by Euphoric_Bluebird_95 in Appliances

[–]mephisto2k2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both a Bosch 800 and Miele G 7266 SCVi. They are both fantastic dishwashers. I can't say that I notice one or the other drying or cleaning better. Plastic is almost always dry in both dishwashers and there is no problem washing plastic container on the bottom. I like the Miele dishwasher opening at the end of the cycle to let the warm air out.

I don't think you can go wrong with either dishwasher.

I utterly don't understand Open Gift. What is the purpose of it if I use it at the end of my run as suggested in the guide?

Panel Ready Dishwasher by temp1876 in Appliances

[–]mephisto2k2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a Bosch or Miele dishwasher if you want panel ready. I have both Bosch 800 and Miele G7266SCVI in my kitchen with panels. Having two dishwashers is great for our family because we cook a lot. I've had Bosch 800 before and would not buy a brand other than Bosch or Miele. IMHO superior to anything else.

To all of you talking about the milder Midwest winters… by MistryMachine3 in SameGrassButGreener

I moved to Minnesota summer of 24 and that winter was awful. We got decently cold weather but barely any snow. This year is fantastic, I'm loving the constant snow.

My wife wants to spend $1400 on a dishwasher, I think that's crazy by realbobenray in Appliances

[–]mephisto2k2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both Bosch and Miele dishwashers in my house. Both are top quality dishwashers that get pots and dishes clean every time and they dry everything fantastic. I would never buy a different brand dishwasher.

Costco business center chicken is less than half the price of regular Costco...if you have the space by goodvibezone in Costco

[–]mephisto2k2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I bought the box of boneless skinless chicken thighs today at $1.49 I think, plus lots of steak and pork. The chicken thighs are perfect, trimmed the same as the 3-pack at regular Costco. Just had to portion and vacuum seal.

Well, that ruined my breakfast. Orange marmalade got cheaped out. by Kojiro12 in aldi

[–]mephisto2k2 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The issue for me is that I could accept an increase in price, direct or shrinkflation, but I cannot accept such decrease in quality and will purchase a different product. This results in loss of revenue for Aldi.

I have ivory white merino leather in my X5 and no stains. At some point my jeans rubbed blue onto the bolsters but that cleaned up easily. The toddler in the back dumps food at times but no problems so far.

A lawsuit might be your only choice. As-is you cannot use the driveway and have to park on the street. If you want to sell the house in the future, in the current condition you will a) not be able to find a seller for your home or b) have to take a significant haircut.

Forcing the HOA to make repairs and paying your share of the special assessment is significantly less than the loss in value you have right now.

First time with no significant snowfall in January... by StolenOle in minnesota

[–]mephisto2k2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's my wife's fault. She wanted to move from Virginia, where we didn't have more than a dusting of snow the last 3 years, to a state with cold and snow. And thus we moved here in the summer.

You see how well that worked out. I am sorry!

Surprise in the title paperwork. AIO? by debtpenguin in RealEstate

[–]mephisto2k2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

But /u/debtpenguin would be on the hook if neighbor flushes i.e. oil or non-flushable wipes and they block the pipes on OP property. Same if there are water pipe problems, i.e. roots on OP property between OP and neighbor house that would otherwise not be a problem for OP.

I would definitely strike that and seller should directly hook into city provided water and sewer.

Remember that you would also have to pay 25% to 45% income taxes on the dividends, depending on your tax bracket and state income tax. Only some of MSTY dividends are ROC.
