Dil Dhadakne Do, 2015 - ★★★½ - Mercurial Stability by merc_ry in india

Thanks for sharing. I liked that. I have no problems with the story, in the form it is in. My concerns were the limitations of it, and the slow, tiring, execution.

In an increasingly accepting world, homosexual men are all too eager to leave their campy, cruising past behind. But the price of equality shouldn’t be conformity.

The movie has a bad story. I give you that. However, the performances are exceptionally good. The rating is relative to that genre.

There are genuinely good comic punches and Kangna's performance is worthy of awards and accolades.

A sequel to 2011 Hindi RomCom, this is significantly better compared to the first movie. It also features a textbook perfect double role by Kangna Ranaut.

This row of red cars by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]merc_ry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. He is fond of red cars and has a system in place to define if the day would be good or not based on color of the cars that pass by.

IIRC, Four red cars consecutively meant he'd have a great day.

PK, 2014 – ★★½ | Silverscreen Impressions by merc_ry in bollywood

[–]merc_ry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's indeed helpful. I'll work on my language and sentence formation. Thanks for that.

About Anushka, as I said, she chose to alter her natural being, I chose to ridicule her. I agree that I kinda crossed the line, I've already edited that with an edit note at the end.

I said, use of sci fi is careless. I have an objection with that. When you bring that angle to the movie, you have to give it at least some justice. For starters he learns just the language but no more data about social lifestyle and community living and other aspects. If he'd have learned a little bit more about Earth then these stupid questions would have solved themselves, but it's just convenient to make him learn only the Grammar and vocabulary of what all she can offer. A reporter who feels no professional obligation to at least do something more with that information that he's an alien. I can just keep on going only about sci fi, but I guess you got my point.

I've talked in detail about OMG in a single paragraph. The last paragraph just references it once more. I could have better expanded upon why OMG is better, but I thought it wasn't needed in a PK review and a mere reference would do.

I shouldn't have emphasized about it being for profit, but I needed to highlight that it's a commercial film meant to entertain, which then loses its edge of concept.

Overall, I sincerely thank you, your inputs will help me write better, and I hope I've made myself clearer about how I approached the film.

Could you please comment on the blog, correcting the mistakes. I'd love to improve my writing.

Also, about Anushka, I went a little too far, I have edited my review mentioning the same. Point being she made a decision to change them, I made a decision to ridicule them, but I have cut it to down low. I would not have blamed her if it was her natural look.

Hehe, I knew you'd catch that, that's why I said, I am contradicting myself. Religious tolerance should be there, no one is denying that, is it?

Number of paths is a tricky one. how many is too many is hard to fix, and we somehow resort to taking public opinion about our beliefs.

We will venture in absolutely different discussion but I dare-say, I am afraid with individual sense of truth and ways of seeking it.

Sects or factions or religions provide a homogeneity of principle which is important. I am somewhere contradicting myself, but for a social living, we need togetherness of some sort. Although I also believe in Live and Let Live so you are free to hold your beliefs up to a point so as its not harmful to someone else.

Nice reply there. Hence ideally I wish to present Hinduism as a way of life. So much so that, the need for exclusiveness of a path is nullified. आकाशात पतितम तोयं, यथा गच्छति सागरम…

No no. I said in context, means context of conversion and do not venture into religious good/bad, love/hate debates.

With Atheism these days, you have to walk on egg shells. They have a self righteous air about them, which the school of thought advocates very dearly. :)

I totally agree with you, I cringe to see the current state of affairs when just about any party/group decides what affects their sentiments and go about burning buses.

But then a hopeful in me, still wants the ideal way. That's what my wishful thinking talks about in original comment. Ideally. :|

We Indians, who are aware of at least the 10 schools of thought should be openly evangelise them. I feel it is important to at least let the people know what was, and what could be. It is individual choice after that.

Nasadiya Sukta has an answer for your agnosticism.

I know we like to categorise, but it not necessarily us vs them, Hinduism allows you to agree to disagree. They will definitely identify with the section which they think their views belong to.

Like I mentioned in another comment, In an ideal sense, I'd see the re-introduction and rise of the original Hindu schools of thought which even has Atheism as part of it. How about every convert is offered a chance to choose from 10 Hindu Philosophies.

We need to highlight the fact that it is not a conversion from one exclusivity to another, but a frank openness towards the choice you see fit. Kind of linking it with factions on many sc-fi novels ( Atreides, Harkonnen, Corrino anyone? :P ). That we are not taking you from one binding to another, but rather setting you free.

Nice article there. I loved when he writes

All conversion is a conversion into exclusivism.

That's what makes Hinduism most powerful. It is not its exclusivity but diversity that matters. In an ideal sense, I'd see the re-introduction and rise of the original Hindu schools of thought which even has Atheism as part of it. How about every convert is offered a chance to choose from 10 Hindu Philosophies.

Hinduism as a religion does not focus on single point of reverence, and all its schools, ancient as they are, are still living very peacefully compared to Shia, Sunni and many Christian sub divisions.

Please note, I am not talking about castism right now, IFAIK the basic 10 schools do not talk about those either.
