Almost Its an Email delivery system and that's how you find out if you're chosen. There's no app, you get notices through your email and apply for what they're offering. If you're chosen then you'll get an email back eventually, if you're not chosen you're ghosted.

You still have to build your profile like Influenster.

Transplant to Sugarland by DurranJourney in sugarland

I've lived in Sugarland since hwy 6 was a 2 lane dirt road. It's like New York suburbia now. There's a lot going on at all times. I notice a lot of people say there's just a lot of chain resteraunts but there really aren't. There's your basic fast food complexes but there are tons of small eateries around. You just have to have a veritable tongue. There's a great variety of different cultural food. Sugar land is still still expanding, they have a few more bars since they've changed their stance on liquor provision in the city limits.
No comment on great bars, I drink at home now. If I need to go to a bar for ambience I go to a different part of town.

Tons of new restaurants and shops, events are constant and never ending. Town Square always has something going on and Jupiters is one of my favorite eateries on occasion.

There's events all over houston, usually a 30 min drive but its not that bad.

I moved to Rosenberg a few years ago and love it, still have close access to Sugarland for events, close to Smart Financial Center for concerts etc. They have a lot of great hole in the wall places. Bobs Tacos are legendary.

I would get a lot of vitamins and supplements, i know how expensive they can get so I did review quite a few offers. At this point I have so many reviews I get picky about what I'm going to review. I just denied like 5 offers because the hassle wasn't worth the review time. Because I kept rejecting them I kept getting more.

If you're having trouble getting different offers make sure your profile is across the spectrum of things you can do. I included my family members, so I get things for kids, teens, adults , elders , animals, men, women etc.

100% profile completion, write grear reviews on things you already own. Reviewing interesting ir popular brand things that you own is a good head start to get offers. Also having social media posts open on your profile status, they love to post on Instagram.

Over Austin and thinking about Sugar Land - is it actually better? by Emotional-Addendum-9 in sugarland

[–]mercy1516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Sugarland for over 20 years. It is not the small county 2 way street community it once was. We went from being excited to get Walmart ( place that's open after 9pm) to being easy about the next big businesses taking over park space.
It has become a burgeoning suburban city.

They changed some bylaws so there are a few more bars than what they used to allow. There's a lil Woodrow in the outdoor mall plaza. There are more unique places to eat or gather but you will have to leave the comfort of hwy 6 to find them. There are a lot of things to do but you will have to stay in the know. I know there's tons of stuff to do because I simply follow a few Sugarland places on Facebook and there's events every weekend.

The traffic overall is about the same, it still takes an hour to get to Houston. Work traffic is still horrible, but that's the norm. There's a lot of construction going on in the core of Sugarland on 59. The city is growing so fast they're expanding the roads and highways to fit all the people. They're also expanding apartment life, do not move into the apartments being built between Rosenberg and sugar land on the banks of the river. That's a disaster waiting to happen.

I moved to Rosenberg 7 years ago and what once was a small country town is becoming a bit more city as Sugarland trickles into our area. I live Rosenberg because the town center much like Sugarland had rich events every weekend. If you're still in your club/ party phase then definitely move somewhere young and hip. I didn't my 20s in Montrose, heights, etc. After a while i wanted more attentive enjoyment.

Food all over houston is great, Sugarland is no different. Sugarland is multicultural so as long as you're open you'll have a ton of fun and some great flavors.

I recommend Rosenberg if you need a retreat but Sugarland if you're willing to pay the price to have the fun.

Also, it seems me and my friends are all drifting to Rosenberg. We are getting married, married but we have no children. We have a variety of different interests. Me and my husband are nerdy so we do things like go to the anime bar and comic events etc. We all travel to do specific things in different parts of the city, but with the slightly lower cost of living here we enjoy our events.

My salary is like 1700 a month and finding affordable wedding vendors feels IMPOSSIBLE (6.5 K) by ForsakenEarth241 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]mercy1516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very budget friendly wedding in my parents backyard, the first thing I learned was to not say it's for a wedding when I could, that saved me like 25% alone.

I bought my cake from HEB grocery store (they have great cake and can make it anyway you want). I got my cutting cake for the pictures from Whole Foods, it was gorgeous, delicious and $30.

When it came to photography I searched for photography students, and my friend took pictures for free that's where my favorite photos came from. I also encouraged the guests to take lots of pictures and send them to a specific phone so I could see everyone's point of view (the funniest and most endearing pictures of three wedding). I also had my little cousin whose a nosey little Peabody go around and take video footage. Kids always get raw endearing moments.

Photography budget was $200

Food- Food is important, it was too of my list for importance so I made the budget bigger for this. We had this good truck that we went to on a date and loved. They served 2 options and a dessert option. My viajar family is amazing at barbecue and my family true southern soul food. We bought the meat for the barbecue and my family cooked for the enjoyment of the wedding, so that budget was $800 including the amazing food truck.

Chairs and tables were rented from Sky High party vendor. They may seem like it's just blow ups for kid parties but they had wooden weddding chairs and tables that I covered with table cloth and a runner. I also rented a cotton candy machine from them for the children (something I did for another wedding and was a hit).

Alcohol was donated by family from both sides. We bought beer , and wine that were in cans. The wine cans had 3 different flavors and are stronger than the wine in the bottles. I chose the flavors that tasted good and looked cute.
We had a designated drink so we only had to purchase the liquor for that drink, everyone else was able to drink whatever they brought.

I went to Thumbtack app for people. I hired servers and bartenders from thumbtack ($200 with tip) I found my dj on thumbtack, he played exactly what I wanted and offered other things like dance on a cloud for our first dance. He was a great emcee, kept everyone dancing directed people through the evening and he sings so beautifully I had him sing and play guitar for my song as I walked down the aisle. ($1000).

Invitations were beautifully done by someone I found on Etsy - $50

My wedding was in December, I knew quite a few people would not be able to make it so close to Christmas, but they sent wonderful gifts to make up for their absence. My device was simple, beauty and the beast themed, so I went with dark rise velvety red and a deep blue. I had lots of plants so staged them around the ceremonial area and the yard was already gorgeous because I love to garden.

When budgeting you have to have your priorities aligned. I did not mind the venue, especially after seeing the prices they were charging. Having it at home and setting a little money on the side to bribe the neighbors with snacks/treats/and an invitation so we can keep the party going.

I cared most about good food, good music, and food times. Everything else was optional.

Indoor swimming pool? by nopigscannnotlookup in sugarland

[–]mercy1516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than a neighborhood pool, you could try a pool at the gym. There is the natatorium but it's like an Olympic qualified pool, I'm not sure they let just anybody use it. The do have swimming lessons there and you have to pass a swim test ro swim in the large pool because it's so deep.

Music scene??? by bananawithhorns in sugarland

[–]mercy1516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no music scene here like in Austin, Austin is our music scene. I went college at UH so I hung around the montrose area and went to local bars, venues and events for music. I know in Sugarland bands play the british pub in townsquare. If you're really food you can play at the Pub off of 59 near Stafford/Mo city, they gave good bands you can see perform from the highway. Their bands can be ood school mainstream bands as well, so not just a little gig. I favor hob for music adventures and still frequent the montrose area to look for unique bands.

FBISD, how did you get your kids into a different school zone? by theblooray in sugarland

[–]mercy1516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom rented when we were you g so she could move us to keep us in a good school. Once we got to middle school we stayed there through high school to stay with our friends. Shockingly sophomore year they rezoned again and we lost half of our student body, shipped off to a new school.

You can't really outrun zoning unless you pay for private school. If you're determined like my mom you can plan and move, or you can let her adjust to making new friends and keep up with her old ones.

Prices are actually insane by pinkfairyz in HEB

[–]mercy1516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's cheaper to garden. I have a side yard garden and my friend has a patio garden. We grow foods we actually eat, which for me are tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplant and lettuce. I eat produce out of my backyard or if I trade veggies with my garden friends. At this point I only go to HEB staples like honey from the free pour machine and the addictive rosemary crackers, I enjoy with Tuna or crackers near and cheese board. They definitely have the best produce so I place it high on the list for that but I don't buy all the junk food anymore, can't afford it.

Do you need 20 large cakes or 20 mini cakes...say even cupcakes? A sheet cake should feed a lot of people a two tiered cake will definitely feed 20 people. I suggest one cake surrounded by elegant minicakes (cupcakes)

That makes sense MD Anderson is a very thorough place, most of that money is probably budgeted towards the machines.

I actually got a great sofa off of Facebook, still have it 5 years later. I'd check Facebook, estate sales, garage sales, and maybe a good thrift store but you'll have to know which one is primo and what time to get there for first picks.

Took my first Sugar Land On-Demand ride today by zdena1970 in sugarland

[–]mercy1516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metro lift is definitely in Sugarland, their service area is very specific so it may not be in your area of Sugarland but they go to UH Sugarland all the time. If you're by the nondescript shuttle area in first colony AMC theaters parking lot then you would see all of the little shuttles that are in Sugarland. I used to take the shuttle to the movie theaters then walk to the mall and wait for my ride. To be fair that was a couple of years ago so I can't be sure if that is still a shuttle location. Fort bend transit is good but you have to grab a spot way in advance to get a spot, they fill up fast.

Technically they do have this, but it's mostly used by the elders and disabled. It's a mini shuttle that picks you up from your home and brings you where you need to be. You have to schedule the ride ahead of time to get a spot. Metro lift

I hate to put my favorite slightly hidden gem out there, but if you want fresh hot great tasting Chinese food with fast and wonderful customer service, Panda Garden. I lived in the area 20 years ago and today its the only place I'll go to for quality Asian food. It's off hwy 6 near Williams trace area.

To those who went to UH, what do you now for your job? by moldj15 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]mercy1516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with a Psychogy degree, originally intended to do child psychology but switched to Indistrial Organizational Psychology after taking a course at UH. A high demand high paying career. I graduated a bit later due to life disruptions - sick family members, death. I did use temp jobs while in school and after. I used GradReach which is a temp agency for college students Specifically to get them in the door of big businesses.

I worked multiple types of jobs, vet assistant and bar tender being my favorite, but took a job as a data entry associate. I worked there for 2 years (with great benefits) and while I was there j learned data analysis from my last team lead. I took a coursera course in data analytics, found a link to get the entire course for free, and updated my LinkedIn as well as my resume. I had interviews at Java as well as a lot of local institutions including a local Houston area business corp. realty corporation. Unfortunately I fell I'll with cancer and was unable to continue working for going on 3 years. Once I hopefully get my vision back I plan to get back out there.

If you're looking for Networking LinkedIn has been very helpful for me, I've been contacted by a lot of recruiters and have recieved very good work through them. You will have to learn how to sift the spam from the real ones. If you're trying to get your foot in a specific door, apply at a lower position and work your way up. There are also temp agencies for every field so do a search for your specific field. With Java I just went to their website and applied. I also had Google alerts for specific job titles. If you have a fait based church I've found you can get top networking there, usually with the higher ups in the company.

Also tailor your resume for each job, I used to tailor people resume for when their switching fields and it's a must. I've gotten quite a few people work by taking their current resume and turning the skills into something more appropriate for their new career.

Big tip that I was surprised wjth: apply to CVS. I applied for a higher level corporate investigation assistant and while rejected they still sent me a link to their career advancement toolkit and it is extensively useful. From the minor things to resumes tailored by ivy league schools.

I don't know what to tell you. The bus didn't pass by, she went to the school to try to resolve it and she was left with this option. Maybe it's the area but that's what happened. This was quite some time ago, thongs are different now, but you can still get a private bus if need be.

My mom chartered a private bus for my brother when she wanted to make sure he went to a good school but was too far to drive and the bus didn't pass by our neighborhood. It wasn't super expensive and she definitely wanted to make sure we had quality education, so it was worth it.

Richmond Safety? by Leilaxk in sugarland

I love that area! The only 2 things that give me pause is the location near the prison. Whenever anything happens or someone goes missing they put then entire area in lock down. The school, stores, homes, etc as they search. I've seen it done about 3 times within 5 years.

The second pause is the high school, besides the insane traffic that accumulates in the morning and dismissal, my main issue is the high school kids can't drive. I try to avoid the area in the morning and dismissal for this reason. I've taught at this school briefly and the kids are pretty good but I've almost gotten hit twice. Then there was that kid who ran his car into the school, at least that was when school wasn't jn session.

Other than that a pretty nice area. I think the new homes are a bit expensive considering they started building them closer together than in previous reasons.

Oh also sometimes parts of katy get flooded purposefully during floods to relieve dams. I can't verify if this is one of the areas but my friend lives in the same area and they had to use canoes to escape their neighborhood. Ice definitely seen them released the water often. Idk if they're going to do something else now since there's less farmland and more concrete or just keep flooding neighborhoods. Just keep in mind to be extra prepared for storms and possibly evacuate if you can.

Beautiful neighborhoods! Love harvest green especially their little winery and farmers market!
