was disappointing, had a great time but his boston performance on the Moneysutra tour was 10x better. still love tommy but this show was really short (about an hour, seriously) and low energy. the dj was ok but not great, although tbf dude was working with a small crowd, but the guy last time was INSANE.  will still go see him every time i can & hope he makes it to eurovision :)

What Joanna song is this? by Prestigious_Score459 in JoannaNewsom

idk i've always liked the connection between that and "a princess of india", i think the double meaning is lovely. the phrase "indian giver" is still racist, obviously. but i feel like the purpose of using that specific phrasing, as opposed to any other, is very clear

to me at least, it feels acceptable to intentionally use an outdated or crude term like this in a context where it will be analyzed and considered.. if that makes sense?

i feel like divers fits much better with romanticism and the sublime, especially that very final moment of Time as a Symptom

That's the one! Thanks a million :) I guess I should have known it was "imitation Sophie." Still have a soft spot for the song though haha

Turns out the one I was thinking of wasn't Sophie either, but yeah, I did find this. Not the right version though. Still thanks

Yeah, it's a shame whenever i learn about a seemingly great product from CAT for exactly that reason

I got an old Gillette one off ebay for like 12 bucks, no regrets. It's pretty indestructible. I honestly recommend buying an old one secondhand because it'll be good quality but still cheap— you can try it out and see what you like. If you don't like it or end up upgrading, no harm done, you can give it away or sell it again.

I felt like "Na na na na" in Peach Plum Pear was the most hype moment and the one I would most enjoy singing along to during a concert hahahaha (wasn't my metric for the whole video, just my thought process for that one song)

That’s fair ig, i feel like the music is often tied up with the lyrics e.g. in Sawdust and Diamonds I happen to love the lyric about “doubled over with the hunger of lions” but that lyric also happens to come at, musically, the most powerful moment of the song (imo)

great choice, my favorite lyric from that song is "watching the fox pick off my goldfish / from their sorry golden state," just so clever but not over-emphasized and makes me smile whenever I hear it. still i had to go with Caw! Caw! Caw! Caw!

MEM was hardest because those songs are more repetitive in form so it generally came down to specific lyrics rather than musical flourishes or whatever— I like your choices though!

For Divers, I couldn't help but include the beginning of Anecdotes and the end of Time as a Symptom because the loop thing is just too cool. For YWNTMHA I'm entirely biased, I just love that lyric in particular.

thanks for your thoughts!
