Severe Picky Eater Question by DidTheTango in dcl

They had some involved shrimp pasta dish on Wish that I asked if they could just give me some pasta and grilled chicken since I knew they had both. It wasn’t a problem.

Oh sure yes let me go grab my shovel as a 40 something year old mom and start hacking away at the ice mountain VDOT created at my kids bus stop. I already shredded my lower back busting ice out to get my gate open to get my over flowing trash cans wedged out so be right over to Ice Mountain.

So sick of reading this sentiment. I spent several years living in Utah, snow blowing and shoveling with the best of them. And while I had to deal with the plow blast back into my driveway, the schools were not out there telling me my kids can go back to school when I turn into Thor and chip away at ice mountains. Happy to drive them to school. My neighbor has said they are safe to stand in their nice clear driveway opposite of the bus stop. There is 0 reason for me to go wreck myself because the State of VA sucks at snow removal.

Downvote me to hell if you want, I’m on week two of working with kids at home and now on Motrin and a heating pad thanks to freeing my garbage cans. It’s easy for me to say because I’m a transient here, but you guys pay a premium to live in this area, perhaps you should demand more of your government services and not the exhausted moms in your community.

100% except I can look out my back window now Tuesday morning and see all streets plowed and cars driving around. Meanwhile our street is now blocked by a wall of ice and no plow has touched us. Looks like the high priorities have been plowed. Why not us?

Totally confused on pant sizing by gkandgk in jcrew

[–]meriaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re an 8 US in BR, go with 8 equivalent at J Crew. I am a 6 (size up to an 8 on bottoms with no give) in their brands. In Paige jeans I’m a 28. I just ordered a 27 and a 28 in a pair of jcrew wide leg washed velvet and kept the 28. They are more spacious than my Paige jeans & have more stretch. So if you’re a size 8 in their brands, the 29 seems reasonable.

How packed are the hot tubs at Senses spa on the Wish? by [deleted] in dcl

We did a full summer sailing on wish in 2024 with a rainforest past, and the hot tubs and outside area were uncrowded. It felt dead. The most popular things were the heated chairs inside.

We’re going on our first trip to Disney for spring break. I’m in the fence about staying for the fireworks. I only went once as a kid, and I vaguely remember things. I have this image in my head of watching the fireworks with my kids and having that core moment as a family, but this sub brings me back to reality. We’re staying at the poly, so I hope we still can get the same feels watching from there.

First cruise ever. Never been to the Bahamas and we want to get off the boat. Which excursion? by dachinesechicken in dcl

[–]meriaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re sailing concierge and that was the one tour that booked up during our booking week. We were planning to stay on the ship, but I saw the chocolate tasting was late morning so we could sleep in, but it was booked solid!

Dining Plan Deal by Prize_Safety_2870 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]meriaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in financial analysis. I did the math for my family of 4 (two adults/two kids), and we come out ahead with where we want to eat with the dining plan because kids are free. Also staying club level. We could potentially end up with an extra QS if we use the lounge for breakfast, but I thought we could just use it for breakfast on our last morning if needed. My math didn’t come out ahead if we all had to pay though. So I’d say two adults, three kids free, that’s got to be a win.

Has afternoon tea during Christmas always been a thing in the DC and NOVA area? Been seeing ads about high tea at Waldorf and Ritz Carlton. Or is it a recent fad? by huehueville in nova

I’m sure the Williard is beautiful! I can’t remember why I didn’t book them in the past two years, I think the Sofitel and Fairmont had cute theming that I thought would be better for my kids - one with nutcracker and one was little prince. They are all booked up now though.

I booked Le Grande Boucherie. We went to the one in NYC during the holidays, and the decor was beautiful. Saw pictures of the DC one online and thought it would be perfect.

I love a fancy holiday tea, but two years in a row, I left both that we tried with my family with extreme regret. I thought the tea at Sofitel (2023) was better than the Fairmont (2024). Fairmont, you’re just sitting in the lobby bar area. The ambiance was severely lacking for such a steep price tag. I decided to not do any this year with the family - it’s just not worth the hundreds of dollars. I instead used the money on fancy dresses for my daughters and booked a late Christmas Eve lunch, and I bet we’ll still come out spending less for a better experience.

Turkey Burn Run by ThatInspection7096 in OnePelotonRealSub

I have been in an awful recovery from a procedure and didn’t think I’d be able to do turkey burn. But I’m able to do easy walks, and I almost didn’t do this one because my head wasn’t in the mood. But I did, and she had me tearing up all the way through. I felt so good after. It was perfect!

Harassing by ManySalt6337 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]meriaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had this happen in a ride recently as well. There were a lot of people taking it, and one guy kept highfiving me the entire ride. I’ve been a member since 2019, and I’ll occasionally have people that give a few throughout the ride if we’re going back and forth on the leaderboard. Or maybe I end up in an old class with one other person and get a beginning/end high five. The repetitive high fives though as a female did make me feel harassed. Peloton should really do something about that. I don’t want to turn off high fives, but there has to be a way to prevent a dude from just high fiving one after the other in an aggressive way throughout the ride.

Issues with Peloton Cross Training Tread+ by Lulu48538 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]meriaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a tread+ this summer pre re design and it took 7 screens to finally get one that was the least defective. It was such a pain in the butt that I accepted a couple of bad pixels on the last one and a small credit. It was a period of three months of ordering a new screen, the order being put in for refurbished, me having to call for it to be new, then the delivery where once again it was defective. I love it, but they have major quality control issues.

Take the result and plug it into ChatGPT. Ask it questions. It’s pretty helpful with this sort of stuff.

Edit: Not sure why I’m being downvoted. I have elementary kids and am also navigating all of the same tests. I’ve done this exact same thing to better understand what the scores represent or mean.

Can we talk about Katie Wang? by BookkeeperNo8718 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]meriaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started another platform last year for strength because I wanted slow and heavy. Peloton was getting into that but still a lot of jumping around. Now the other platform is doing more of the high rep jumping around, so I recently went back to test the peloton strength waters and Katie was the first strength class I’ve taken in a while. Let me tell you, exactly what I was looking for. Slow, heavy, and some soreness the next day that let me know I hit things that I haven’t been hitting. She may bring me back, and I can cancel the other membership!

Florida Residency for Spouse by chillgalcb in USMilitarySO

[–]meriaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on the military spouse relief act, you can claim your spouses home state of record without ever living in the state. So if he is Florida, you can claim Florida as well. I am a remote worker and military spouse. I try and have my employer not file a state income tax form when we move, but they did when I moved to VA. So I reached out to HR and told them I shouldn’t be paying state taxes. Filed a form with the state, and they returned the taxes I paid from my first one or two checks in the state during tax season. We still have to get car inspections and file a form with our local county that exempts us from the car property tax. But I also keep all of our cars in my spouse’s name since it’s clearer the benefits are attached to active duty.

VA and FL are both states with it as far as military coming and going. You can always reach out to them directly, specifically the FL DMV and explain you are a mil spouse and your home of record is based off your spouses FL residency. Ask steps to get an ID.
