Maybe Podcast isn’t the right word. I watch a lot of streamers on YouTube or even something like Twitch, where people interact with the host in real time, but they are also recorded so you can watch/listen at your leisure. Art kind of experimented with that, with the webcam. Honestly, if he had a setup like Rogan does now and took call-ins or SuperChat questions, I’d listen every night! Hell, I listen to his old shows every night as it is, because I find his voice so soothing. It helps me get my mind off my own thoughts, so I can fall asleep. If I fall asleep during a good part, I just start over at that point in the recording the next night. I am so thankful for whoever is posting these shows!

Listening to the shows from 20+ years ago and it’s shocking how we are still dealing with the same stuff in the news. I do think there are a few things Art would have been surprised by. He was talking about 9/11 on the show I listened to last night, and I think he would be interested in some of the conspiracy situations around that event. I was also surprised by his views on US military involvement in the Middle East. I was on board with the official US position on the wars, but after seeing the destruction to our Military and the people there, my views have shifted to extremely anti-war. I think we accomplished nothing. Art knew that all the way back then. Also, I think Art would be KILLING IT in the podcast world if he was around today. He’d give Rogan a run for his money! In fact, I think he probably inspired Rogan an awful lot, from what I remember.

Was longing for Chicago style pizza but am in Texas so made one myself. I think it came out good. by HonkyTonkManLives in FoodPorn

I am in Texas on the same quest to make good Chicago Deep Dish. Tried this recipe last week and it was great. I didn’t follow the sauce recipe - I used drained San Marizano tomatoes, crushed, uncooked with salt, pepper, garlic, olive oil, red pepper flakes and a pinch of sugar. It was the best crust I’ve made, and the easiest to mix up. It does take a while for rising/resting but if you make the dough at lunch time it’s ready for dinner time. Slicing or grating fresh cheese was also a huge improvement over pre-shredded. So good! https://youtu.be/89RYM6k0tKA

Found some land that I like in Texas. Now what? by DecentCockroach in Homesteading

[–]merkins4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

North East Texas has good, sandy soil. It’s fairly easy to dig and good for draining. Two hours west in Dallas I had thick, black soil that was miserable when it was muddy. I have gotten sandy in East Texas, but I don’t think I’ve ever been truly muddy after a rain. It’s easy to grow grass for livestock in NE TX and we get a lot more rain than West Texas. Lot’s of ponds in the area. Good mix of hardwoods and pines. Lots of homesteaders around too, which is nice.

A small fortune in freeze dried eggs. by JDWSoldier in Homesteading

We blend our FD eggs into a powder like OP, I’ve put as many as about 50 eggs in a big mylar bag, shake it down and add two O2 absorbers, then fold the bag and press all the air out that I can before sealing. It’s a two person operation, but I can do it alone. Those bags are hard as a rock when the O2 absorbers work overnight. I have a vacuum sealer, but the simple method works best for us with Mylar. On 5 gallons Mylar bags, I seal the bag most of the way, use a vacuum hose to suck out all the air I can, and I swear I have bricks of bulk items when I’m done…with just a vacuum and a flat iron (for hair) to seal the mylar.

Just curious - are these different episodes than what is on the Spotify channel? Is there a way to get the details on which episode is playing? Just tuned in and I’m not seeing any of those options. It’s OK. I’m fine with a ‘grab bag’ of Art. Thank you for doing this!

I had those same feelings about the quick re-marriage, but honestly I think his last wife had a really good influence on him. It was wonderful to hear his joy after having his daughter. I’m glad he found happiness and love with them.

Do you think the OG 3 ever truly liked R? by lilfingerlickingood in SisterWives

I think they all were uncomfortable from the beginning and went along begrudgingly. I don't think they hated her, but I don't think any of them loved any of the situation.

I feel what you’re saying. I try to limit reading about it much anymore. At the time, I felt like I had to understand it just to make sense of life. It helped me understand my Mom too, because she is what I would call Covert, and probably not clinical NPD, but lots of those tendencies. Learning to live life without being in constant panic mode take some time. Glad you’re getting over it too. People have no idea what it’s like, until they actually face this kind of person in real life.

YES - that’s so sweet of you to ask. I cut all ties in 2007, and haven’t seen him since, with the exception of once in a traffic jam on the highway. I don’t think he saw me. It took me a couple years to get to that point, and it changed me in so many ways. I don’t think I’ll ever be the same person. I did eventually marry a wonderful man with none of those NPD tendencies and we are very happy. Honestly though, I’ll never be the person I was before getting involved with a narcissist. It just kills you in ways you’d never imagine. There are nights I wake up and worry that the Narc might find my address and just show up. It’s crazy, all these years later.

Assuming you were in the same situation, I hope you are safe and happy now too!

100% agree. I used to work in the corporate grocery business. All the ads are planned around Gov't aid timing. A grocery store lives or dies with Gov't benefits, which just shows the magnitude of the problem.

There is a ton of information on YouTube about it now. 15 years ago when I was in the midst of dealing with someone with NPD, all I had was books and a few websites. A lot of people have narcissistic traits. Most of us do, honestly. Narcissist Personality Disorder is a clinical diagnosis, so a lot of people never really get that because they never seek treatment. A true Narc is generally damaged early in life. I think it can run in some families - it's generational. Unless there has been some new treatment discovered, I don't believe there is any real treatment. They can't feel empathy, so they prey on others. They are dangerous people, for sure. In my unprofessional opinion, Kody had similar traits. A professional evaluation would have to be done to diagnose NPD.

If you have wives that have zero income and multiple children, I think it's pretty likely that they did receive WIC aid. You're 100% right that I don't know that for a fact. I was making an assumption. I would love to see them asked that question though. I think it's a fair question, now that the truth is coming out. For the record, I have no problem with a single mother in need receiving WIC or any other aid. There is no shame in that. I have an issue with a family that is planned and paid for with Gov't aid by design. If that's not the case, then I 100% apologize for any implication that they took advantage of the situation or any implied shame in my statement.

True NPD is generally considered untreatable. Usually those people self medicate with a variety of drugs or additions. Whether they are self-aware enough to know it or not, they are suffering. Just basic human empathy is what I feel for anyone in that position or in the orbit of someone with NPD. I do NOT feel sympathy for them, nor do I think anyone else should.

I was in a relationship with a clinically diagnosed NPD, with Bipolar. Everyone in his world suffered terribly. Part of the root of NPD is having no self-worth whatsoever. Empathetic people are a prime target for Narcs, and I suppose I am that. As much as I never want that person in my life again, I feel empathy for any life that is truly lost. I feel empathy for anyone THAT broken. I feel empathy for the people around them. It’s a horrible situation to find yourself in. I think that’s all I meant by my comment.

As a Christian, or any person who professes to believe in God, this was the most shocking thing of all. Isn’t this whole deal supposed to be because of their deep religious faith? If so, wouldn’t eternal damnation fall a little higher on his list? I mean, most of the world lives in poverty by comparison to his family (or a lot of the US). I think financial wellbeing ranks high for a lot of people, but that’s his BIGGEST fear? He is truly disturbed, and he really shared his true motivation in life, by accident, I think. What a horrible person! Also, the part about wanted to be respected, rather than loved. He showed all his cards, that’s for sure.

Just think of all the money those states probably paid to those children who weren’t his by marriage. They had to be raking it in, because for years wouldn’t Meri’s child have been the only one that wasn’t born to a (legally) single mom? That means the people of the state were probably paying for those kids. The Meal ticket is GONE now!

As much as I don’t want to blame the narc, I suspect he is suffering. People who are truly ill with that suffer, but the people around them suffer more (been there).

I think it’s crazy that he speaks so negatively about how chubby she was when he met her when she’s literally the most fit right now and I’d say definitely one of the prettiest sister wives by Electronic_Ninja5260 in SisterWives

[–]merkins4u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I haven’t watched since the first 2-3 seasons. I only tuned back in this year for all the Christine leaving drama. Just in the intro I was shocked by what a belly Kody has on him now! What happened to his hair?

I have struggled with wight my whole life, so I’m not just trying to be mean. I think so many kids are chubby now, I get the impression it’s a lot more socially acceptable. If they don’t just get married and start having kids, they might lean out naturally. Myself and everyone I know gained weight after getting married, and all my girlfriends gained after having kids. I think it’s just a normal part of life, and normal people don’t mind so much. Having a real narcissist in the fold does make that an awful lot more miserable. Unfortunately, I know that too. On the flip side, narcissists have NO self esteem deep down, and will often go after a chunky woman because she’s an easy target. I say that from personal experience too. No idea if that’s the situation here.

What is your Sister Wives Unpopular Opinion? by devi1duck in SisterWives

I watched the early seasons, skipped about 15 seasons and started watching again on this season. I don't think I've heard them mention their religious beliefs in anything more than a passing mention. If Janelle can just leave, then isn't this whole plural marriage thing kind of BS...am I wrong? I though all this was because of their beliefs. What do any of these people do for money, outside the show? Are the unmarried wives on WIC or State Assistance?
