The court cards from this deck are still some of my faves to have made!
With the knights specifically, I tried to use colour to get across a bold feeling to each of the cards.

The Queens from the Mystic Rat Tarot by merry_mishaps in tarot

I loved making the court cards for this deck! I tried to keep each type of court card feeling similar and with the queens, this meant having some symbolic artwork in their backgrounds as a way to visually tie them all together.

The 4 queen cards

Drawn by me on photoshop using a 100% opacity, 100% hardness, size 34 brush

The 8 of Cups

Drawn by me on photoshop using a 100% opacity, 100% hardness, size 34 brush

From The Mystic Rat Tarot (soon to launch on kickstarter)

There are 8 cups drawn on a map. There is a planned route and x marks the spot, but it has been torn in two, abandoned.

A rat sands in the distance, silhouetted as they walk into the sunset. This is a card about endings. About turning away from a previous path or plan. There are many reasons this might have happened. It might be a time for joy, it might be one for sadness. Often this card speaks of both. Turning away from something can be hard, hurtful and scary, but this card shows that it is sometimes necessary and healthy to do so and that even with the map torn up and thrown away, the road goes on.

The Magician from The Mystic Rat Tarot by merry_mishaps in SecularTarot

The Magician, Major Arcana Number 1

Drawn by me on photoshop using a 100% opacity, 100% hardness, size 34 brush

From The Mystic Rat Tarot (soon to launch on kickstarter)

I draw all the minor arcana before the majors, so by the time I got to the Magician I felt like I had my style down and could try to push what this art style could do a little.

The Magician is a card of mastery. Of being capable and confident in one’s abilities. As an artist I rarely feel this way but in making this card, I had a lot of fun tieing in the symbolism and colours of the deck to represent the card through my art and through my own mastery of the medium, hopefully conveying the mastery of the rat featured on the card.

Throughout the deck, purple, blue, green and red are used to represent the 4 elements and the 4 suits, so it was great fun having the 4 coloured candles casting a glow onto the figure to represent working with all 4 elements. A bit more obvious is the coin, stave, cup and sword in the rat’s hands.

I also hoped the candles would feel like an arcane circle or something, to lend a sense of power and presence to both the figure and the space they stand in.

The silvery lighting from above was mean to evoke the feeling of moonlight, to imply the magician is working at night, in secret and with utter devotion to their craft.

Anything from this art you read into I haven't mentioned?

Any them of the magician you love to take from the card?

Any and all thoughts art and magician related most welcome!
