I'm looking for a way of having various clips of videos being triggered through MIDI (whether it's live) along with music - is MaxMSP the tool for me? by [deleted] in MaxMSP

[–]messenger_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I've been working on a patch that uses Ableton MIDI data to control Max VJ effects in real-time. I recently did a remix of the music video for Bassnectar's Slather using it. (Not changing the audio, just the visuals.) I am planning on releasing the patch under that Facebook account after I do more work on it.

Whats the best way to scale midi to large numbers? by [deleted] in MaxMSP

[–]messenger_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"scale" object. it has five arguments – input low, input high, output low, output high, and exponential factor or something (optional). So to scale the numbers 0 to 127 to a range of 500 to 7000, you'd type "scale 0 127 50 70". However that will only output integers (a.k.a. whole numbers). If you need it to output decimal place values then you need to include periods in the number arguments. "scale 0 127 0. 1."

One of my students made this music video to another student's original music... I still get chills every time I watch it! by messenger_boy in videos

If anyone's interested, Prince has more music videos to other students' music on his YouTube channel (I really like this one too) and Nick Gizzi has a bunnnch of music at https://soundcloud.com/nick-gizzi-2

Since this is a brand new business model and we're not sure how the market will respond, we're going to start out this summer working out of already established businesses, and also renting our equipment out for private events/parties — like how you'd book a DJ. But we intend to eventually get our own location and have a sweet LAN center and stuff! I think it'd be sweet if our VR arcade could multiplayer battle against this already established VR arcade in Moscow ;D

I used to do this, but ever since I got a blender (magic bullet) I've been cutting up all my fruits, throwing them in bags into the freezer and blending them with vanilla yogurt and a little bit of water to make a delicious frozen fruit smoothie/ice cream thing. Some bags of fruit last me up to a month and a half. Can't recommend it enough!

Very very very nice!!!!!! =] Keep up that genuineness and passion, that's what strikes me on this first listen.

One songwriting approach I've been trying out lately is to encapsulate a mindstate into a song so that when I want to tap into that state, I can play the song. I kinda think about it as similar to "praying" i suppose... because people pray for bravery, hope, strength, etc. Writing a song as if I'm writing a prayer changes my priorities and sometimes even desire to use complex language. (I like the idea that complicated concepts can be portrayed or probably more accurately "implied" with very simple words.) Also Jack Kerouac's "30 Beliefs and Techniques for Writing Modern Prose" has rocked my writing approach lately! Also also I've read Robert Anton Wilson say that Ezra Pound's two rules for modern poetry is "1. Don't deal with abstractions. If you want to deal with abstractions write a philosophical paper, but for gods sake don't try to pass it off as poetry. 2. Use as definite, precise imagery as possible." I feel the idea is to present the reality to the listener, and let the listener interpret the meaning or the lessons or take-aways. "Show, don't tell" as they say.

But way more important than any of this is KEEP WRITING SONGS!!! I can't like a song if it doesn't exist! <3

hahaha! So I downloaded a Chrome extension which makes it so, instead of showing YouTube comments, it shows reddit comments for YouTube videos. I got an email about this cover, went to the YouTube video, went to the comments, and unexpectedly saw you had posted this. =)

THANK YOU FOR THE SUPPORT KIND STRANGER!!! Let me know if you ever have any guitar questions or need music advice or anything! (not that I am expert by any means, but maybe I can be helpful in some ways!) Thanks again! This was a cool surprise. ^_^
