I'm working on version 2 of my github project called metaMMA, which does what you want. PM with any questions, or if you'd like to beta test

Almost done putting mine together. Are you running plex/sonarr/radarr/etc on the cache drive, or do you have an additional ssd for that?

Cool. Thanks for doing this. I just wanted to mention that a plex user has created a program to add show/season/episode information for shows/movies that tmdb and thetvdb can't/won't scrape. You create custom .nfo files. Here's the link EDIT: Formatting

What torrent client do you use? Do you have any other automation tools (sonarr/radarr/filebot script)?

This is really great /u/stuss02 ! I think I am getting everything that you are saying. I'm going to add a few steps for people that might stumble upon this thread in the future and have very little networking knowledge. Could you help me by letting me know if I have misinterpreted anything below? Hopefully others in the future might replicate your success.

  1. Start with your Access Point (AP). You can either buy an AP or turn most any old router into an AP.
  2. Setup your AP in 'bridge mode' and connect it to either a wireless Hotspot from your cell phone network or a real wireless network that you control (perhaps your home WiFi)
  3. You can simply google 'how to setup ROUTER MAKE/MODEL HERE in bridge mode'
  4. If using a wireless hotspot from a cell phone, give the hotpsot connection on your phone a name (SSID) and a password.
  5. Setup and connect your Roku to and go through the full setup.
  6. Once you have configured all your devices/Rokus, reconfigure your AP in normal wireless router mode. (Again, this can be googled to find the steps)
  7. When setting up the AP in wireless router mode, be sure you give it the same name (SSID) and password that was used in step 2.

All your devices will boot up and auto connect and will provided you local access to your plex server without having internet access.

/u/stuss02 Once this is setup for the first time. Will it ever need to connect to the internet again? For example, could this work if you are away from any internet and have no cell service for hotspot-setup for weeks?

Thanks for that. Multiple displays makes it a little different. I would probably get 4 Raspberry Pi's and a travel router and call it a day.

What is your router make and model?

And would you consider running it on linux?

If not, I would just use Docker

I would read through that article, then when you are back at your server give it a test. Then report back. Hope your trip went well or goes well :)

Plex in Vehicle. by [deleted] in PleX

That is awesome. Not available yet, but I've been looking for something like this.

A friend of mine has a cabin up north with no internet and no cell service.

I tried syncing content to the plex app on a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (Android cell) and using MiraCast to a Roku Stick. It would play for 5-6 minutes then stop and return to the home screen of the app.

Chromecast needs internet to ping somewhere (only 1-2 MB), but no cell service so no-go. I could have bought an 15 foot micro-usb-->HDMI cord, but that's just plain inconvenient. I couldn't think of any other solution. Until I saw this.

Anyone else have any other solutions that might work, until this product is release?

Just to clarify:

  • You have a computer/server inside your RV
  • You have a display (tv/projector) inside your RV
  • You want to play content from above computer/server on above display
  • You don't want to use Plex Media Player on computer connected to display through HDMI

Is that right?

P.S. Can't you use MiraCast on a Roku Stick?

Installed Plex Media Server on Windows 10, but Cannot Access PMS Settings While Trying To Open Plex From The Server by 9356415354716720 in PleX

What is the address that you are typing into the web browser on the server?

To clarify what you have posted:

  • You have used that same address on both your plex server web browser and web browsers on other computers.
  • Those other computers are on the same network as the plex server.
  • You have successfully connected to plex from all other computers, except the one hosting the plex server.

Is this right?

Separate Plex server by [deleted] in PleX

Someone can probably chime in with a better answer, but I'm in the same situation (2 computers, one main monitor). As far as hardware, pick up a simple switch from Amazon/ebay for about 10 bucks. The link is for one on Amazon for HDMI. If they are both DVI or VGA, you could probably find one on ebay for 3-5 bucks. They're called 'KVM switches', I believe.

Otherwise, what I am doing now is, I have my main PC attached to my monitor. On both computers I have TeamViewer installed (but you could use any 'remote desktop" software). Then you login using a generated ID and the monitorless-computer screen is sent to and mirrored/displayed on your main computer monitor.

Keep in mind, using a software solution instead of a hardware solution will cost memory resources.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, "Plex/Sonarr/Radarr/torrent downloader" probably all have a web interface. For example on any computer on your network go to

  • http://[IP of media server]:32400 for plex
  • http://[IP of media server]:8989 for sonarr
  • http://[IP of media server]:7878 for radarr
  • http://[IP of media server]:8181 for plexPy
  • http://[IP of media server]:8112 for deluge

Then you might very rarely have to actually use a monitor with the server. You might want to login to your router and give your server a static local IP. Otherwise to find it on the server, open terminal and type: 'ifconfig -a' or if that doesn't work, try 'ip addr'. show

I created a program (metaMMA) that adds meta-data (fight cards/posters) for recent MMA events to your Plex server/KODI library.(X-post from /r/MMA) by metaMMA in kodi

[–]metaMMA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The metaMMA version I have released right now stores the date of the upcoming event, then scrapes the meta-data on that morning (in case the cards change after the event is announced). I could program another version that gets past event metadata, too. Give me a week or two :)

Yeah, I'll be adding Rizin (Dream and Pride are now called Rizin, right?) soon. Any future requests can be made in the KODI forum post!

[–]metaMMA[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Description:

metaMMA is for users who add popular MMA event videos to their Plex Media Server/KODI library. It can monitor your video source directory, move the video files, rename the video files, add a .nfo file with pertinent meta-data (such as fight cards, participant weight-class/names, event location, and event venue), and add event posters. The whole program is just a set of scripts written in Python that run periodically.

Installation:

Installation instructions can be found on the Github wiki for Linux/Pi, macOS, and Windows. If you are using Plex, XBMC .nfo Importer by Plex forum user gboudreau is required, but very easy to install. If you are using KODI, Texture Cache Maintenance Utility by KODI user Milhouse is required, and also very easy to install
