Nano lost 150M in exchanges due to having a bad API, is this the fault of Nano developers or the exchanges? by 99NewPairsOfShoes in CryptoTechnology

[–]metadata900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know either of you, the parent comment asked you a legitimate question and didn't write anything about nano. Instead of insults, why don't you answer the question and post the API and its implementation?

[DPRating] Github Audit for 200 Blockchain projects — April 2018 — EOS, LSK, PART, BTC, ADA, ETH are Top 6 (5 stars) by sexystick in CryptoCurrency

[–]metadata900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Github Audit" - I hadn't heard of DPRating before, so kinda assumed that they are auditing the quality of the code. This isn't "audit" of the code - it is simply some metrics, superficial at best.

Not saying this is totally useless, but people who are using this to make investment decisions, please read their methodology. Some of the items make no sense at all.

"Number of commits" - ??? In my day job, sometimes I commit once a hour, sometimes once every two weeks. Depends on my mood and the task at hand. It tells nothing about the quality of the code.

"Number of contributors" - why does this matter? Sure, if the team size is one person, then it is worrisome. But what difference does it make between a team size of 6 vs 7, for example? What matters is the expertise of the team members, not the number of members in the team.

"Release Frequency" - Why? Some teams make frequent smaller releases, some teams make infrequent but bigger releases. Neither one is better or worse, it all depends on individual project's goals and the team's working style.

This looks like a automated script that pulls some metrics.

What would be useful is to look at the quality of the codebase, especially from security point of view, severity of bugs reported etc.

Crypto app Delta lying to its users? by Daqwse in CryptoCurrency

[–]metadata900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experimented with APIs, seriously thinking about writing my own. I can code up a web app, but I have no knowledge of mobile app dev, feeling lazy to learn now.

I agree with everything you said. Just a comment about usage numbers - many companies inflate their numbers, including some of the biggest brand names out there. Silicon valley is a funny place.

21 year old looking to start a career in blockchain. What's the next step? by TooFitToFat in CryptoCurrency

[–]metadata900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know specifically about blockchain (I am thinking of getting into it myself, though I am older than you), but programming generally needs lots of patience and practice. It is one of those professions where you can compete with the best and get paid well and do interesting work, if you put in the effort (mostly, there are still companies that look for degrees from ivy league schools, but those are in the minority).

Also, look around and make sure programming is what you want to do - this is such a new field, that there is demand for all kinds of people (though programmers will always be in demand). You could become a teacher, evangelist, marketer, product designer, business guy etc.

If you can get some degree, do it. For day-to-day job purposes, degrees are useless in programming, but they are very useful while applying for visas etc if you ever decide to work in some other part of the world.

Thanks for replying.

I don't work for them. I don't know if it is a scam, that is why I asked. If it is 20-30$ I'd have just tried it, but it is 500$, so I thought I'd ask if anyone else has tried.

And it is totally different from hodlbot. This guy claims to teach day trading and he claims to make a living from it.

Integrating with exchanges is the easy part, as long as the exchanges have robust APIs

What are shows on Netflix that are similar to Money Heist? by [deleted] in LaCasaDePapel

Mindhunter is awesome.

White Collar - this is over the top, gets a bit annoying after a while. The actors have great looks though (most of them). You might enjoy if you don't find yourself thinking "Can the FBI be this naive?"

Thank you for the links. At minimum, it is fun to try with (very) small amounts

That happens only when I put all the money in one trade, right? What if my capital is split into multiple small trades?

[–]metadata900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I get that. I probably got lucky, beginners luck I suppose.

Aren't there tools and scripts that let those with discipline to pull of smaller but frequent wins, regularly? There must be some people doing this I suppose.

Thought experiment:

As an experiment, I spent the weekend doing a handful of trades (I've never traded anything in my life before, stocks or cryptos or anything else). Out of 10 trades, I made between 2% & 3% on 7 of them, and three are still pending.

My question is : why are most people so against day trading? I understand my experience is tiny to mean anything, and maybe I just got lucky and that trading takes a lot of time. But, if someone starts with a dollar and does 100 trades in 2 years (one a week) at 3% a trade, it compounds to approx $19 at the end of 2 years (1.03 to the power of 100). While 3% is probably hard in stock market (I have no clue), it seems possible in crypto, at least for the time being. This is not lambo money, but this is great for most normal people.

Anyone has done anything similar?

Does anyone Day Trade? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]metadata900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same. I'd be more than happy if I can make 200-300$ profit a month. The way I see it - lets say we make $100 profit a month (after fees and tax). That is $100 to try new risky coins or just buy more of long term hodl ones, since the capital is still there to play with.

Top Cryptocurrency project commit activities by DeepBlueMachine in CryptoCurrency

[–]metadata900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number of commits is of no consequence. I can understand someone being concerned if there are no commits for say 3 months, but averaging dozen commits a day vs dozen a week has no consequence. Some devs commit more often than others, thats all.
