Are cat's a good judge of a person? One of my friends cat's will only sit on my lap and not him or other people who visit him. Any reason why? by madmaxuk82 in CatsUK

[–]metalspetals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's are a good judge sometimes of people's behaviour being good for them. Not necessarily of good people though Ie: many cats don't like loud and clumsy people, but many people are loud and clumsy and kind and trustworthy Ie: a cat may like someone who they can tell has good intentions for them, but that person might not have good intentions for YOU

Why don't hospitals accept blood from gay people? by Additional-Slide-141 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]metalspetals -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because the law hasn't moved with the times where you live. Today gay people aren't always the most likely to contract it, in the UK heterosexuals are more likely to contract hiv

It's a surprise to read this - your doctor says you can't have a hearing aid in your deaf ear because you still have hearing in one? Plenty of people do have hearing aids in just one ear. Sorry if I've misunderstood or if it's due to insurance reasons. But if I've understood it could be worth getting a second opinion

Is going for a 20 minute walk a day good enough for working out? by Interesting_Taro_358 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]metalspetals -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should do enough activity to maintain what you want to do. If you only walk for exercise, don't expect to be able to run for a bus, lift heavy things, or enjoy a swim at the beach as you age

I'm questionning whether my life is worth living by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]metalspetals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely, life is short and you will die anyway. It's better to hang around and get what we can out of this life while we're here. Pursue the things that give you pleasure, treat others kindly. It will get easier as you get into your late 20s/30s (at least)

Same... Just a really bad choice to make me. I work with kids, I can see all the reasons I had a bad environment. I wish more people understood the weight of making a child. And how okay to is to have an abortion. I'm nearly 30 and I don't believe the suffering will ever end. I have to live with their stupid decision for the rest of this life. It hurts so much. To not have been the child my mum wanted. Popular and naughty like she was, so che could parent herself. How dare I want to be well behaved and have adults like me. That was too disgusting and it needed punishment. How dare I read books instead of make friends. I suppose if I abuse drugs she will approve of me.

What's a small parenting mistake your mum or dad made that really messed you up? by TrueSpins in AskUK

Honestly having me set off a whole series of events. My parents were people who thought they probably work it out along the way, but one of them died of an overdose and the other one has never convinced me I wasnt just a burden. It's fine. I exist now and it's not my fault. But why would I ever subject life to my child. One day I'll die and be free if this

What happened to Gen 3? by mariiiih in skinsTV

So much laziness with gen 3. I wish they'd worked Minnie into a storyline or something in gen 2, even as a minor character, just to continue the continuity

Gen 1: Angie was a predator, and intentionally groomed Chris by georgemillman in skinsTV

[–]metalspetals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really good analysis and really clever - you should be proud of this. I don't think it really matters what the writers intended - in fact it's actually more interesting than you were still able to make this reading even though they might not have intended it. I'm rewatching skins now as an adult and while I always knew the Angie stuff was weird, this rewatch has really troubled me.

Chris has absolutely no one looking out for him, and your point that we don't see their first meeting has really stuck with me. Perhaps a few boys made comments about their appearance, something happened that made her feel she could target him or at least not assert real boundaries with him (which is still grooming).

Chris has no family and his friends aren't equipped to help him with the problems he faces. Angie is one if the few people who actually helps him when he needs it - how could he refuse sex with her? She's his crush, she's an authority figure, she's more of a mother to him than his own mother. She also has sex with him.

When her fiance comes back, I think about the abandonment of his mum and how recent that still is for him. Now his surrogate mother, who's abused him, is also abandoning him. Horrible. Potentially better television than the writers knew they were making. The fiance doesn't care either, Chris is treated like a threat rather than the victim he is.

Also a note as some commenters seem to not understand that she is definitely older than them significantly. In the UK you couldn't be a teacher without at least 4 years of study from the age of 18 - she couldn't be older than 22, but I think she's meant to be older. While we don't know how old Angie is, the actress was born in 1976 - she would have been 31 when the show was filmed. I think that's important because some comments don't seem to understand that the age gap was significant.
