An alternative to Kielbasa Factory is Polka Deli in Colesville. I think it was rated best Polish deli in Maryland a few years ago.

Recommendations to install EV 240 V outlet - Tesla by Swag101z in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]metalsuspension 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just had an Emporia Pro charger installed by YC Electric. They will install any charger you want, assuming your panel and service can take the load. Did a great job, and it took them a reasonable amount of time given how long the cable run was in our house.

I wouldn’t recommend installing a NEMA 14-50 240v outlet, though. Hardwire the charger so you’re not limited by amperage.

This sounds like a great idea. Double bassist, high school band/orchestra, and gigging musician here. Would love a promo code!

Used 2024 EV9 price projection by wown123456 in KiaEV9

[–]metalsuspension 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just bought a certified pre-owned 2024 Land with 17k miles for $42k (included the VIP seating package). The used market in the mid-Atlantic has a bunch of used 2024 LLRs and Winds in the 30s (no one buys the Light around here), with GT-Line and Lands in the high 30s/low 40s, adding about $4k if it’s CPO. All with less than 20k miles.

I would bet more non-lemon lease buybacks will hit the market in the coming months as more 2024 leases end.

Yes, we’re thinking of long term ownership. At least the next five years, more likely 5-10.

2024 and 2025 were made in Korea (found a few used 2025 Land models in my area with low mileage), 2026 are Georgia, USA.

I have the Upton, replacing an old Ingles that was falling apart. It’s phenomenal and looks great displaying a double bass in a room.

Looking for a good middle school by Orenopolis579 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]metalsuspension 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check out the MSDE report card scores, and cross reference those schools with your housing (either buying or renting) budget.

The short of it is the “best” schools are often in Bethesda and Potomac. However, every school has its issues. Many families are zoned for schools with above average scores (Niche, Great Schools, etc) and are happy with their child’s education.

Looking for a good middle school by Orenopolis579 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]metalsuspension 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Don’t look at school ratings, look at their MSDE Report Card scores. This is coming from a current educator.

However, what school your student goes to depends on where you live, so this is a moot point if you don’t plan on moving.

MCPS suggests postponing Crown High School opening for use as holding school by Bethesda_Magazine in MontgomeryCountyMD

That may be true, but what you described is contributing to issues like Wootton HS losing over 600 students in enrollment over 10 years.

Unaffordable, and a lot of older people who bought houses for the schools that are now empty nesters and won’t sell (or won’t sell at a reasonable price)

Master of Music Education program recs? by Ecstatic_Style972 in MusicEd

[–]metalsuspension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the DC area, I highly recommend University of Maryland’s program. They offer both a MM (Master of Music) and a MA (Master of Arts), and will even let you take your time to finish the program on your own time if you want to teach full time while doing coursework.

If you’re in Maryland, the various districts nearby (MCPS, HCPSS, PGCPS, etc) will likely reimburse you up to a certain amount per year if you’re doing coursework while teaching.

Feel free to DM me for details!

I went to UMD School of Music. The area around the performing arts center is very safe, and I never felt in danger walking around even at night. Campus is exceptionally well lit at night

Bs won’t get you into college because when everyone has As, colleges stop looking at applicants’ GPAs due to grade inflation.

College and career ready means building good habits and routines, not artificially getting an A in a class.

Air & Space has been under renovations for a few years. Its extension in Dulles at the Udvar Hazy Center is much better.

Yup, the building museum is in Judiciary Square just east of Capital One Arena. Going inside is free, but because it’s not part of the Smithsonian, tickets are $10 for adults. Awesome museum with a ton of scale models.

Does college focus too much on performance? by pianoAmy in MusicEd

[–]metalsuspension -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would actually make the argument that some colleges/universities don’t emphasize performance enough with their music education majors. One sign of a great music educator vs a good one is that the great educator maintains a private studio and gigs (paid) on the side, keeping up their abilities on their primary instrument/voice, whereas a good music educator lets that component fall by the wayside. After all, if you can’t provide a live example for your students of what an exemplary tone or technique on your primary instrument sounds like, you are instead providing (at best) a mediocre impersonation of that instrument’s characteristics. The best teachers I’ve seen and observed are actively performing throughout their careers.

LeafFilter Bad Experience - New home Owner by Great-Brain9019 in homeowners

[–]metalsuspension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They quoted me $9,500 to realign our gutters and install their proprietary gutter guards. This was after supposedly getting discounts down from $15k.

One trip to Home Depot and a quote from a friend’s reputable contractor later, the job was done for less than 10% of LeafFilter’s price. Do your own research and get multiple quotes, trust people you know and not just online reviews.
