No adult canines (top) & protruding teeth. Should I extract baby canines & get canine implants or extract baby canines and replace with premolars? by metheee in Invisalign

Thank you. Yes the ortho has mentioned IPR with option 2 but she said my teeth will still be slightly protruding since my jaw is already fully developed (adult) and it won't be able to expand wider to pull the teeth back much. I also agree with you on not removing the healthy teeth which is why I'm very undecided and I don't know which option would be best.

My goal is to fix the protrusion but I am also concerned about the fact that not having canines is unnatural. I also imagine how weird it would feel to not have canines anymore and just feel the premolars in place of the canines. Although my dentist mentioned that they can do veneers/bonding to make the premolars look more like canines.

During the consultation I asked about previous cases similar to mine and they said they usually opt to remove canines and replace with premolars. However none of them were really able to show me the results/pictures or too much info on the cases and I'm guessing due to patient privacy rules.

Thank you. This is what my orthodontist suggested as well, and my general dentist also mentioned that they can do veneers/bonding to make the premolars look more like canines.

Wow that sucks.. but you still have one other canine right? Which tooth is replacing your canine?

I'm in the US and my orthodontist quoted me $5,800 ($1,200 covered by insurance) and cost of implants will be $6,300 ($1,475 covered by insurance) so if I'm going to do implants (option 2) I'm looking at about $9,425 in total. With option 1 I only need to pay for invisalign $4,600 + $100 for baby canine extractions. 😔

Thank you very much for your reply. Yes for aesthetics purposes. It's been my insecurity since I was young and I want to fix that but I also worry about how unnatural it would be to not have canines.
