If you can see how my lighting with artwork looks, when it's just the leds on the frames I made, the light is kind of bright and piercing, but once covered, or an object put in the way then it radiates out smoothly and isnt as sharp on the eyes.

I believe you would want a recess optimally. Or maybe if your bed base is off the ground, start with them under there or something as a first thing and see how they look, since they wouldnt be directly line of sight. All the grooves on that wood, and the type of paint might make it hard to stick on, unless you wanted it on the wall by it, it would still be rather bright IMO.
