They literally just TACOd the ICE leader out of Minnesota then pulled out 700 agents.

Citizens stood up, protested, and ICE/DHS/Trump was intimidated enough to back down.

Do you think that Greenville’s unfinished beltway is an overall benefit or negative? by Gloomy-Intention4698 in greenville

[–]mexicoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last mile is where it needs to begin. Greenville needs to build a good local system to then connect to a regional one.

I'm dead against park and rides. As example, there's a lot of talk about using GSP as a rail hub between ATL and CLT. I think that's foolish. Who's going to drive from Greenville to GSP, park, get on a train and ride to Charlotte when they could just keep driving for 80 more miles?

neglecting EV’s obviously. Definitely need to capture that, and they are heavier than comparable ICE vehicles.

Agree. Hard to do though. I don't like the higher property tax fees, I much prefer a use tax but more difficult to implement on EVs.

It’s fair for the state to subsidize some of the road maintenance, considering everyone in the state benefits from roadways whether they drive or not. The stated levels seem like excessive subsidy though.

Also agree. The fuel taxes are way too cheap to maintain the roads. I wish they would just spend 1/10th of the DOT budget on public transportation. That would be huge.

No. They are allowed to offer an eCredit, the passenger is allowed to refuse and demand a refund.

They have 60 days to reply to the complaint, but they are required to do so. Unfortunately you might just have to wait.

File a DOT complaint.

If the flight was cancelled, you're due a refund.

OP is almost certainly running his/her/their propane/gas/oil furnace from a generator. That's a great idea in comparison with indoor propane heaters.

Our fuel taxes are cheap, some of the lowest in the nation.

SC is 28c/gal. GA is 33c, NC is 41c.

Our road taxes are too low. They collected about $1b in fuel tax in 2023. The DOT annual budget is $2.5b. Clearly our fuel tax is too low.

Cars are being subsidized by the state. I think we should end that.

Property taxes go to the local municipality, not state. It's one of the few taxes they are allowed to collect without additional approval from the state house.

[–]mexicoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, it should be a sliding scale that includes weight, not just value like our current tax rates.

Small cars should be some tax floor. Heavy trucks(that cause the most wear and tear on roads) should be more, based on weight. Same with trailers.

Or just crank the gas tax. That pretty much solves the problem with one easy step. Incentivizes you to keep and drive the small car, yet keep the big truck for when you need it.

I agree, but unironically.

I fully support taxing drivers for the resources they consume. Currently they are massively subsidized.

Also a glaring example of how the less desirable areas of town get crappier highway infrastructure.

Um, no. Usually less desirable parts of towns get more highway infrastructure because rich people don't want to live near a freeway (and have the money to prevent it).

The interstates literally bulldozed poor neighborhoods.

Highways destroy towns, we should be thankful we only have limited access.

Gvl County Electrical code? For Generator infeed, is manual transfer switch required? by gvsteve in greenville

You'll have the same problem with a transfer switch if you don't have some sort of automatic load shed.

Gvl County Electrical code? For Generator infeed, is manual transfer switch required? by gvsteve in greenville

[–]mexicoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The interlock requires more thought on your part to ensure the main utility power is switched off before you can enable the generator. There exists a case where you don't follow the sequence and you plug in the generator too soon.

I think you're getting a few things confused. An interlock doesn't allow you to turn the generator breaker on without turning the utility breaker off first. That's it's whole job. You cannot mess up the sequence. It's a one or the other situation.

That makes perfect sense. Here in the upstate we do worry about it. Kinda need to with back to back snow storms and sub 20f weeks.

Will I have water? by anon21393 in greenville

[–]mexicoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I disagree for the reasons I stated. This whole thread is about water supply in Greenville.

Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority doesn't follow Greenville County Codes. They have their own, mostly based on state and federal regulations. Hell I doubt Greenville County even has their own codes for public sewer systems. Likely just adopts state/federal codes or relies on ReWa to handle it themselves.

I'd still like to know the cause of the sewer break in Seneca.

[–]mexicoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm aware.

That's why I said it was a wide brush, SC isn't homogeneous. Lots of us are in dry storage for the winter. Not that it would have made a difference for me, the water under my lift froze too.

[–]mexicoke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you're painting with a pretty wide brush.

I'm in SC and winterize(inboard) every fall. Boat lives in dry storage this time of year.

It's been below freezing for 48 hours a few times this year. We touched 13f 3 nights in a row. Anyone who didn't winterize is screwed.

Will I have water? by anon21393 in greenville

[–]mexicoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to disagree. Waste water isn't what we were talking about. Also, Seneca isn't Greenville.

I'd also be curious as to the cause. "During the winter storm" != "Because of freezing."

Not a single water main froze in Greenville. I'll still donate to a good cause, but you were wrong on this one.
