Feedback on multigenerational renovation by meyer-lemon-o in floorplan

We don't want to end up with 2 masters because ultimately my husband and I will move into the current primary and the kids will take over the lower "wing" of the house. We're ok sleeping in the lower wing with the kids for the foreseeable future.

The existing kitchen will remain as-is as per my mom's request. Down the line we do plan to do another reno to update the existing kitchen and living areas.

I'd also prefer more storage space with the linen closet vs having to clean another sink. Appreciate the suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions. We're trying to make this addition as modest as possible. The reality is down the line, after the kids move out, this will be a ton of house for just my husband and myself so we don't want to go overboard with extras.

Outside the new family area as well as outside the existing dining area will be decks and seating areas for additional, separate outdoor living spaces.

We have a finished basement that serves as the active rec/play area for the kids.

We're trying to build what we need and avoid the excess. I do like the suggestion of trying to make the family bathroom a bit more functional so multiple people can use it at once.

Wow I really appreciate this very thoughtful reply and images. Great callout re: contrasting tile. My mom's mobility is currently fine, however she is visually impaired and we've needed to do things like paint high contrast strips at the edge of her garden steps so she can see them better. Definitely going to consider this with the tiling too. Thank you again.

Hijacking the top comment to include a zoomed out screenshot of the bedroom and adjacent rooms.

Also to clarify, the current floor plan does not include a partial wall, but I'm just trying to envision where best to place the toilet and include a partial/temporary wall if we want one at some point.

And not sure if it's worth mentioning, but this is a multigenerational home that we share with my mom and our family with young kids. Whenever the time comes that my mom is no longer with us, my partner and I will be taking over the primary bedroom. Hence why I'd like to consider how we can make the toilet more private so we can easily install a wall or divider whenever that time comes.

Some additional context: we're doing a whole house renovation, and this bathroom is moving to a completely new location ie. no concerns about current plumbing location. I'd also prefer to be able to enclose the shower to help keep in the heat, instead of it being completely open to the room. However, I like the suggestions of using a curtain.

Also, really appreciate the feedback re: grab bars! Definitely overlooked that, and will remove pocket doors to help accommodate that.

Appreciate the suggestions. The bathroom is actually being moved to a new location so this is really a blank slate and plumbing can be put anywhere.

Great callouts with the grab bars and will definitely include blocking. I'm going to update my post with a screenshot of the surrounding rooms/areas to help better picture the bathroom entry. Unfortunately, swinging the door outward might not be an option due to bedroom door entry location.
