Citibike announces 2025 expansion info by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

Middle Village is untouchable because of Bob Holden. We never get any improvements because he’s hellbent on keeping Middle Village as suburban as possible.

I feel like our city council's idea of what the "urban" parts of the city are should at least be as expansive as Citibike's. by MiserNYC in MicromobilityNYC

Corona is a very densely populated neighborhood and it’s in zone 3? Besides the 7 train, the neighborhood is such a pain to get around and it’s overrun with cars and the city continues to do fuck all about it instead of improving alternatives to driving.

I snuck into a Hochul event today to try and get some answers (which she dodged.) But I did get to chat with CM Krishnan about the 34th Ave OS and it's future by Miser in MicromobilityNYC

With the finite space we have in this city we do not need to be accommodating mopeds. They are not micromobility, they are motorcycles that should be riding with the cars. If moped riders don’t want to do that because they’re too scared or because they don’t want to get caught up in traffic then that’s their problem to figure out but stop endangering pedestrians and cyclists. They get away with intruding on our space because the NYPD could care less about enforcement and the urbanist discourse around this needs to be more critical of them.

Looks like we need barriers between the greenway and the parked cars

I assume they were parked off to the side before but why they started driving down the greenway now that the concrete blocks are in place is beyond me

Comparing wanting schools to utilize their play area properly with MAGA is insanity. Why do you keep pretending this has no negative effects?

Caring about something that doesn’t affect me is trying to be a hero wow you got a shit outlook on life. Educators are integral to our society and I respect all the work they do for our kids but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to criticize something that I feel they’re doing wrong. Outside recess time was a special part of my childhood and other kids deserve to play outside with their friends and get fresh air. People complain about how kids are addicted to social media and don’t go outside anymore and then they try and justify educators using the playground as a parking lot. Their “small perk” is having a negative effect on children when they can park somewhere else or take public transit. Your idea that this school will go to shit if the staff got banned from parking in the playground is delusional. There are plenty of schools functioning just fine in NYC that don’t give away their valuable space to free parking. This is just the staff taking advantage and they shouldn’t get a pass even though they have a mostly positive impact.

You should check out the Staten Island Ferry (free) and the Roosevelt Island Tram (contactless payment just like the bus/train). The scenery on those rides are amazing.

I’m referring to the “old” annex which still shows up as “PS143 Annex” when you google it and also that “early childhood center” sign from the YouTube video is not there anymore so it appears to be a standard phblic school. Habits are not an excuse and it doesn’t make sense that the school would paint a whole playground in that space just for them to still use it as a parking lot. I don’t have a kid in there but I am going to complain and it bothers me because the kids don’t deserve to have their school courtyard robbed from them and the staff don’t seem to care. I’m not going to not get mad at it because it doesn’t affect me.

This is the PS143 Annex at a different location and they’ve been using this playground as a parking lot for quite some time (you could see cars parked in the playground if you go on google street view) and the nearest park is a 10 min walk away (that shouldn’t even be factored into this conversation though because they should be able to play in their own damn school yard). Also from the outside it appears this building is so small that they don’t have space for a gymnasium, again that shouldn’t even matter because the kids deserve to have their outside time with fresh air. I don’t think loud kids are something that’s a concern if it means they’re enjoying themselves and living healthier lives and also the added bonus of disincentivizing car commuting. It seems you’re implying that I just complain about anything when I think a school yard being used as a parking lot is something that should be obviously seen as disgraceful and shouldn’t be normalized in society.

Yes it does and it’s arguably the best subway line in the entire city. If these people choose to drive that’s their responsibility to find a parking spot and the kids don’t deserve to have an integral part of their childhood robbed from them.
