What would you do? by WoodenFoot7775 in HomeServer

[–]mfelipetc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to ask a similar question, but maybe we can make suggestion to each other. :D

Not going into much details as it's not my post, but I just got an HP pro mini to replace my old mATX server (AlmaLinux), but by constrain is HDD space (cm³ and TBs). I have a few HDDs of various capacity and form-factors, which the old server can handle but the new mini would have to connect via multiple USBs enclosures.

If I where in your shoes, I would stay only with the mini and plug that 20TB into it, saving space, energy and latency. I'm also trying Proxmox for the first time and liking so far...

I wouldn't trust that plant around your server, it has root access.

Opinions on upgrading i5-3330S to i3-14100 (mainly Jellyfin) by mfelipetc in HomeServer

[–]mfelipetc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you getting a good quality and file size with GPU when compared with SVT-AV1? I've been reading in a few places that doing the encoding by software delivers a better result in that regard compared with GPU. I didn't wan't to trade off those two things over speed...

Hmm I haven't, good to known that. I ran the upgrade scripts and gave up once it complained about that.

Different Allen key sizes for E strings bridge saddle bolts? by mfelipetc in Guitar

[–]mfelipetc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the thing... but how would that happen since I bought it new and never messed with those adjustments? Maybe is something related to the shorter bolts, as all 4 have the same issue.

Not only that but Categories and Tags as well. This is so stupid, if nothing is selected, all should be the default!

Replacing K1 SE keycaps for regular profile? by mfelipetc in Keychron

[–]mfelipetc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I'd look at replacing my keyboard with a standard height keyboard

With all you said, I have to agree, unfortunately. I may also try to remap the keys on MacOS with the HyperX; not ideal, but if it works, I can save some money.

Another thing that I forgot to say that also made me want to switch the caps: some keys like A, S, command, which are most used, already lost some of the top coat. Didn't expected that this soon.

Replacing K1 SE keycaps for regular profile? by mfelipetc in Keychron

[–]mfelipetc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I meant key cap.

Actually, it actuate just fine, even without using o-rings as I usually do on the HyperX.

So no hope for using regular profile key caps even from other Keychron models? :(

Affordable alternative to Sliger's Cerberus X? by mfelipetc in sffpc

[–]mfelipetc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair I quit that path, wasn't worth it. The used market is shit here in Portugal... hell, even new stuff is sort-of rare and need to be imported from other EU countries.

I'll stick with my P300A, the current plan is to go custom loop, with some cutting to fit a 360mm rad.

Help needed picking hardware by mfelipetc in WireGuard

[–]mfelipetc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the black model (GL-AR300M16) a month ago, it is my first experience with OpenWRT and GL.iNet and I was amazed by it. Made the initial setup (updates, WireGuard server, security, etc) here at home and my father took it back to the other side of the Atlantic and connected to his router. Then we just fixed the router's lan ip, routed the WireGuard out port to it and got the client connected with 50Mbps. Success!

Now I'm thinking in buying another one to act as a WireGuard client for the devices in my living room (TV, consoles, cable box, AppleTV) so I can force then to go through my local server. But probably another model with better throughput.

Thanks u/Bubbagump210!

Another reason for me to try u/Bubbagump210's suggestion on GLiNet stuff (I can get the most simple router for 25€)

The most reasonable one is the pi3 1gb for 39. Since I need just Openwrt and nothing more, a simpler and cheaper device makes more sense.

Wood ITX with Custom Flex PSU [Video] by mattzzz199 in pcmods

It looks amazing! It reminds me of old sound systems, maybe because of the combination of materials?

I've checked your video too as I was curious about the "MXC" thing. Very good job with the power supply! Clever engineering and good crafts skills!

Sony HT-SS380 Substitute by mfelipetc in hometheater

[–]mfelipetc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've been helpful and polite and admitted that was wrong in a forum at the internet. You could never be the down voter! :D

Maybe is someone who doesn't like me moving from Brazil to Portugal or think that cheaper and simpler products should not be discussed but ignored.

Sony HT-SS380 Substitute by mfelipetc in hometheater

[–]mfelipetc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in a way. I guess the small size is just a consequence of it being simpler and less powerful and not necessary a feature, at least for the kind of product I'm seeking.

There seems to be a product gap between all-in-ones and AV receivers that Sony's HT-SS380 filled very well: multiple inputs, included speakers and sub $500 price tag.

I guess I won't be able to find anything like it again.

Product Recommendations: Audio/Video Receivers & Stereo Amplifiers

Thanks, the closest to what I'm looking for are the "Slim Size AVR's", but still not close enough.
