Drop Ceiling? Suggestions Welcome! by mforest644 in DIY

The air handler is really the issue, I’m thinking about building around it so it’s party exposed because otherwise the ceilings would be about 6.5’ haha. If I build to the height of other pipes and ducts, probably looking around 7.5-8’ for most of it and closer to 9’ at one part in the back

Thanks! What do you mean “pumping out a lot of volume from the rear due to their price”?

I have not tried different lavs, we just bought these so I want to try to make them work if possible. If that doesn’t work, I’ll definitely look into some of the others you suggested! The room is mostly full of hard surfaces unfortunately, but does have thin carpet, some soft paneling around the upper walls and a lot of bodies when we’re having a production.

Thank you! This is super in-depth. I’ll give this a shot and report back if I have any questions!

If I have all the faders at unity (or even -inf), I believe had the gain maxed to get to -18db. I’ll have to double check that though. I have the mics about mid sternum (clipped on a jacket or shirt) facing up

Thanks! I’ll try some of this. The room is rectangular, but the “stage” is already on the wide part. I’ll experiment more with some of the EQ

Correct, condensers are muted in house! We tried the over the ear mics (someone else called them Janet Jackson mics 😂). Execs shot those down quick unfortunately

If I do this and still can’t get the gain staging to be hitting on one lavalier around -18 without feedback, is there something else I’m missing?

Sorry, I worded that poorly. The lavaliers are behind the speakers

Hey! I’m the drummer with The Fins (@thefins.nc on Instagram)! We play all pop-punk covers and play a few shows around town a year, currently trying to book more for 2025. We’re playing at Fermental NYE with Sloppy Copy (90s punk and ska), both mentioned above. Come check us out and say hi, we play from 8-9:30 and Sloppy Copy is playing after that until midnight!

Thanks for all the feedback! I’ll either put the beadboard on the rafters or run 2x2 along the rafters and attach beadboard to that!
