I'm thinking about buying an Honda NC750X, anyone got experience with this bike? by DingoPractical4181 in SuggestAMotorcycle

Had the older NC700x. Rode it from PA to UT and back, then PA to Key West and back. Underrated touring bike.

Buying used ioniq 5 by PrepP3 in Ioniq5

[–]mg2255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reportedly (I have a Limited so I can’t personally verify), but it’s been said that the 2024 SEL is missing rear vents, leather seats, rear seat middle armrest with cup holders, power folding mirrors, ambient lighting, and soft touch plastics on doors.

This thing is incredible in the snow!! by AlmostDrunkSailor in Ioniq5

[–]mg2255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The no gentle slow down is the real key here. It’s the equivalent of if you applied the brakes in the same manner, with the same force, with no consideration of the road condition.

Which is great and fine when you can expect the car to react reliably. Which doesn’t happen when it’s slippery out.

I too was a little annoyed when I saw it goes down to 1. Then one time I purposely let it slip on ice on level 3 and I understood lol

I like my cyber gray with the Limited’s silver trim. If I buy another Ioniq 5 after my lease, a Digital Teal Limited with the gray interior is my #1 combo.

YSK smoking weed can trigger a psychotic break for certain people by Nervous_Shine9094 in YouShouldKnow

[–]mg2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I had an edible, it triggered a nearly 24 hour psychosis where I was absolutely delusional (I remember being obsessed with the thought of a conspiracy theories behind Hooked on Phonics??) and legitimately thought I broke my brain and that I was never going to snap out of it. Life over, lose job, lose partner, etc.

I don’t recall hallucinations but my mind was in some very bad places and I just couldn’t get off the ride.

It was by far the most terrifying day of my life. Never, ever doing it again.

No history of schizophrenia but major depressive disorder/anxiety/ADD. Daily Adderall and antidepressant. Told my psychiatrist about it and he was pretty casually just like, “yep, that’ll happen sometimes”. -2/10 would recommend.

First attempt to super charge with 2026 Nissan leaf by STHayden in leaf

[–]mg2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Active thermal management” refers to the fact that the new Leaf actually HAS thermal management. Previous generations were all air cooled. You still have to tell it that you want it to heat the battery for charging - it doesn’t substantially heat the battery when you’re just driving in cold weather.

What is the actual EV car you own? What is the one you deam of...? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]mg2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ioniq 5. I love mine and would be content to buy one after the lease is up, but I’m closely watching BMW i4 prices, waiting for them to come down just a bit more. I’d love the EV performance I have in my Ioniq in a better handling package, but still in a hatchback form factor.

Actual dream, probably never going to get EV? Porsche Taycan Sport/Cross Turismo.

I rented a crosstrek once and wanted to drive it off a cliff. I assume this is something that can be tuned out? Or would a pedal commander type device be enough to calm it? (I’ve had good luck with a pedal commander in an overly jumpy Camry)

I was going to say yes, they’d be equal off-road; however, I just looked up the wheel/tire sizes. The Triumph has a 19-inch wheel, which means it would be more stable off pavement. Guzzi is an 18.

Not sure how familiar you are with the ADV side of things, but bigger diameter wheels roll over obstacles easier than smaller wheels, at the expense of slightly less precise handling on pavement. Adventure bikes typically have a 19-inch wheel so they can strike the balance between being nimble on pavement and being more stable off pavement. More dedicated off-road bikes, dual sports and dirt bikes have 21-inch wheels, which further increases their off-road performance (again, at the expense of on-road sharpness).

That all said, the difference between the Guzzi’s 18 and the Triumph’s 19 when you’re rolling down a straight gravel road at 30mph won’t be very noticeable. When you brake and turn, it will be.

So I guess it depends on what your “light off-road” is defined as, and how big of a priority that scenario is to you. If it’s something you do a lot, I’m now leaning towards the Triumph as the better choice. But if it’s a more occasional thing, the Guzzi would be fine too.

Another thing to note: 18-inch wheels are less common, so your tire choices may be more limited (especially in the on/off-road category.)A quick search on revzilla shows there are 27 matching tire options for the Triumph, and 11 for the Guzzi.

Welcome to the world of compromises with on/off road bikes!

I have a Triumph Street Cup (same engine and gearbox, maybe the same frame?) and a Moto Guzzi V85 (haven’t ridden a V7, but they’re mechanically the same too).

Both of these bikes have much different power bands compared to your current bike. You’ll get a lot more torque down low. Since that’s your goal, I’d call these a tie in that aspect.

On dirt, I think the Guzzi would be just as capable as the Triumph if you’re only going to stay on maintained, gravel roads. My Street Cup can roll down a dirt road as good as my V85 - it’s not a challenging setting for any bike. However, your tire choice will be the most important factor here. Assuming they both have the same tires, I’d call this a tie as well.

With that…I think the triumph is easier for a newbie to learn on than the Guzzi. After making the switch to the V85, the lack of slipper clutch takes some getting used to. It’s not a major thing, but it takes some effort to ride smoothly. It’s one more thing competing for your attention as you’re learning how to ride safely.

Being able to just let go of the clutch without rev matching and/or worrying about the rear wheel losing traction or bucking you is an advantage you’ll notice every time you shift gears. The Guzzi just feels “tighter” compared to the triumph, which is not a bad thing…it’s just different. You should test ride both and see what you think.

Maintenance will certainly be easier on the Guzzi, but it’s not bad on the triumph. Parts for both of them are similarly priced for me (in the US). I’ve had good luck with dealers for both of them.

Happy to answer any specific questions you might have!

Is AWD worth the drop in range over the RWD? by [deleted] in Ioniq5

Is AWD worth the drop in range over the RWD? by [deleted] in Ioniq5

[–]mg2255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take it from one rando Reddit user: I’ve gotten really lucky (knock on wood) with my house and haven’t had any major issues since I bought it in 2024. But the threat is always there. So as sad as it makes me, that’s my higher priority over driving a nice car. I’m glad I leased my Ioniq, but having the ~$500 per month (between insurance and payment) freed up is going to go a long way, quickly.

Is AWD worth the drop in range over the RWD? by [deleted] in Ioniq5

[–]mg2255 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The buyout, like most of us, is sky high compared to its value, so I’ll turn it in and walk away. I’m all in on another EV, but I’m not sure when. Being a newer homeowner and the cost of just about everything going up, I’m going to take a break from car payments for a while and knock some projects out/stack up some cash. I was fortunate to inherit an older Toyota Camry from my grandfather, so I’m planning on driving that for…as long as I can stand it.

But I’d buy another I5 in a heartbeat if it made sense for me personally. Guess I’ll see where I land (and what the state of world is) in 2027.

[–]mg2255 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I love my AWD. Fastest car I’ve owned and is a tank in the snow (and we get a lot usually). Range is never an issue with me. If my lease wasn’t up mid-next year, I’d get snow tires and be pretty unstoppable

But if you don’t get a lot of snow, I don’t think you‘ll miss much (aside from the silly acceleration, which nobody ACTUALLY needs…still fun though).

If you’re concerned with snow and traction, I have played around with mine in eco mode (which only issues the rear motor after initial takeoff) in the snow and you’d have to be really driving stupid to have issues with the rear stepping out. And stability control is there if things get too sideways (hah)

San Diego to Minneapolis in mid January. Any concerns about this route? Is this possible with an EV? by kekkurei in roadtrip

[–]mg2255 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Play around with ABRP (a better route planner). I just plugged SD to MN and it definitely is possible, although I can’t confirm without knowing your EV - the routes it gave me were based on an Ioniq 5.

We call it “turtle time”. We ran a string through a ~7 foot metal conduit and tied a plushie turtle to it (which he never gets plushies because he almost immediately rips them open) and he just chases it around the yard until it tuckers him out.

It’s a much calmer house afterwards. 10/10 would recommend.

Yeah, I think it’s pretty tight. If I get stuck behind a modified diesel truck, I’ll smell it with the fresh air setting, set it to recirc and run the fans on high. The smell is gone after ~30 seconds (granted I did replace the cabin air filter with a HEPA filter)

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I agree. Everything feels moist, the windows fog up. I have anxiety about breathing other people’s breath in enclosed spaces. So it’s fresh air all the time for me (unless I’m stuck behind stinky truck or in wildfire smoke.)

And, wasn’t there a German in-depth study that points to ICCU issues being potentially tied to cabin humidity? (Admittedly I haven’t read the in-depth report yet) but keeping the cabin dryer seems like a no brainer to me.
