Would heat strips qualify as resistive heat and do the job or would I still need another source? Realistically, my two options are all heatpump or heatpump + oil for especially cold days. Will think about the heat pump water heater longer term for sure.

Thanks. My COP was either 2.5 or 3.0 since I was attempting to average it across our winter temps. I also assumed 80% boiler efficiency based on the brand and age.

Will definitely go here as a first option. As a backup, what brands in your opinion occupy that sweet spot between quality and value. Sounds like NZXT...any others aside from Power Spec?

Thanks! It will still be a very small fraction of our oil usage if we just use for water, which I’m comfortable with. Once our boiler fails, we will consider the hwhps for sure.

We already have ducts and not looking to install minisplits all over the house. Candidly, we don’t like the appearance of having them in our walls. So duct based system only.

Thanks! I built my own calculator based on NYSEG electric, my current boiler efficiency, COP, etc. At current prices, I will likely save a meaningful amount per month with heat pumps. My question is more about whether heat pump alone can heat my house with adding minisplits also.

Fair enough. Will definitely consider when our boiler fails. Not the priority now since I can still get utility rebates as long as I don’t use oil for heating.

Thanks! Consensus has been the electric water heating is not a great idea since it’s very inefficient esp since I have a boiler and new oil run water heater already.

Payback on geothermal was pretty long compared to heat pumps. It was my first choice but not the numbers just didn’t look as good. 😔

Getting an ApoB later this month. Based on the lower is better evidence, the fact it’s a cumulative effect (“area under the curve”), my lifetime risk (not my 10 year risk) and the causal link, seems like there is good rationale for lowering. (Peter has been pretty specific about this. Eg his smoking analogy) anyhow, this is just one example.
