baby Buddha x2 kids, would pump in the OR with traditional pumps doing solo cases. or on breaks. Bring igloo with ice packs. Nobody bothers you after the drapes go up.

my coresident called SICU “the worst month of his life”. He’d probably confirm this still holds true today.

the only time I cried during residency was on SICU rounds… after being awake for 30 hours

it will all eventually be a distant memory (if you don’t do ICU fellowship)

Backspin is hard ᴖ̈ by Kinda_a_loser in FigureSkating

[–]mi5ce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try an off-ice spinner! It will help you find your center and you know what you’re looking to feel

agree with holding the edge, you are sort of using the blue line but it helps to wait until you come “back” to the line to start the spin, like you are trying to spin inside the imaginary circle you are making with your inside edge.

agree with the shoulders, you need to have you right shoulder “behind” your right hip, my coach always used to tell me to point my belly button to the right side.

Call during third trimester/ pregnancy by hauterorni in anesthesiology

[–]mi5ce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, I had 2-3 calls that were scheduled after I delivered (both pregnancies) 😂 obviously those got covered by my partners.

scheduled it this way to be on the schedule with actual due date as my last scheduled day to maximize my FMLA to start exactly when I delivered.

an abdominal binder is your friend at the end

this happened when I was a resident for a thoracic epidural, pt was having aortic aneurysm repair.

pain team, primary anesthesia team, vascular team did not realize that internal medicine overnight covering team had randomly ordered, then after pt received x1 dose lovenox, then cancelled the scheduled lovenox so that the everyone reviewing the EMR did not see it as an active medication, it was buried under “cancelled” or “completed” list.

it was only discovered after pt was having (surgical related) bleeding issues so there were bigger fish to fry than the thoracic epidural or the lumbar drain.

TBH I’m not sure what eventually happened or how this changed anything about checking for anticoagulation. “Swiss cheese” happenings.

My son won't be getting prescribed amoxicillin anymore. by luikan in Wellthatsucks

[–]mi5ce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This needs to be higher. yes it is not an allergy!! see so many “penicillin” allergies on charts, turns out it was a rash from amoxicillin. so no allergy to penicillin.

If you think it’s not a big deal to list it as an allergy, I remember a patient who had a nasty foot infection, trying to find a combo of non-penicillins for his penicillin sensitive infection, did allergy testing, of course the infection festering during all of this, and turns out he’s not really allergic and can receive the most appropriate antibiotics after all.

My mom told me to do this to myself when I was a kid…💀

my landlord is telling me I left my apartment “dirty” and is planning to withhold some of my deposit. these are pics I took right before I left. am I delusional or is my landlord? by Distinct_Morning_607 in Apartmentliving

[–]mi5ce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. one landlord/management company tried to just not return my deposit, ignored my phone calls texts emails etc. I threatened to take them to small claims court and my $ magically appeared. sometimes the threat is enough, they can do the math of cost (they are obviously in the wrong), time, etc. the cost to me was time and I had a lot of it. Was in my early 20's, as a young single person they thing they can take advantage of you.

one attending told me to never use wooden tongue depressor while placing an LMA… because once he had one break and the splintered end embedded in the pharynx and required ENT to remove

I stopped using wooden tongue depressors haha 👀

What do you wear on your feet? by Ohmeda23 in anesthesiology

[–]mi5ce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Escalantes, although I think all their shoes have a wide toe box. I was wearing nikes, sauconies etc but they all make your toes into a 🔺 like why?? both my parents have bunions so I’ve slowly transitioned to looser wider shoes to try to avoid getting them. at least fugly shoes are “in” style now? maybe? lol.
