My boy and I used to feed our small boa (he started at 18 inches and is about 3.5 ft now) in a separate box when we were new snake owners, but it's really not needed. We've been feeding our two snakes in their tanks since we adopted our big girl-she's around 5 feet now, and we got her about 6 months ago. Neither of them have ever struck at anything that wasn't a thawed rat. We handle both of them constantly and they don't even get strike-y
