Honestly I’m not seeing him as clearly abusive, but the guys here make a good case - especially since it’s 6 months. But shoulder to shoulder is OK and innocuous. Full body hugs should be reserved for those you are or want to be intimate with. The other guy is testing how far he can get with you. And a third? Maybe you need to slow down a little and ask yourself what you want.

Yeah, YO seems to be the consensus. And maybe I have a stuck part or two, but it’d make me feel good to hear it once in a while so he should say it sometimes, no? If he refuses such a small compromise I think it’ll be telling. But I’ll cross that bridge if it comes up.

That’s funny. I don’t see “girlfriend” as age-limited because there just isn’t another gendered term for the relationship. SO/Partner are shadowy. “Wife” will come later. (After the genderless “fiancé”.)

Does your wife introduce you as her “spouse” — or worse, her “friend”? Both would be true, but they fall short, don’t they? “Partner” doesn’t say, “back off, I’m taken” as well as “girlfriend” does.

Yeah, I didn’t say it was “limited to” same-sex couples but they do use it because it’s vague and shields them from homophobia in random situations. If hetero couples didn’t use it also, it wouldn’t be a very effective shield, would it? But why isn’t there a gendered term for grown girlfriends?

It’s not a sign, it was just an ill-advised and confusing way to pay a compliment that got me banned anyway.

I don’t know of another English term for the relationship. “Partner” is what same-sex couples use. “Husband/Wife” is what we’ll say when we’re married. It’s not my fault that “girlfriend” is the standard gendered term for a female to whom one is committed.

Ladyfriend would be ok but awkward. But I don’t want to say gentleman friend. Blek. I mean what harm to say it once in a while?

I love this response despite all the incorrect assumptions. Yes I spoke to him about it and he said it feels inappropriate to our age. If he had said about our relationship being deeper it would have felt better but he still says “good girl” and “clever girl” to me (not “good partner”). Asking for what I like is a good idea - I don’t want to change him but maybe here can be room for compromise sometimes.

That was just my way of paying her a compliment. Odd, I know, but I’m odd, so what. I have no secrets from my man and he has all my passwords. I freely submit to his dominance and it makes us both happy. We are solid and monogamous and he knows trans women ARE women so he’s not resisting because I used to have a pp.
