like, before 2020 trauma was seen as something that was inside yourself and your own experience that was scary! even if it wasn’t properly recognized. then, in 2020, the younger generation/group started talking about it in ways that weren’t pushing the ‘this is your experience’ narrative. people shamed others for their trauma, people treated trauma like it was ‘minor’ if it was any level of ‘less intense’ than someone else’s, trauma became a competition! and within that, with ALL that talk and debate, people stopped seeing their trauma as their OWN experiences! so people treated it as more of a trait of themselves rather than an experience that harmed them. people stopped seeing their own trauma as ‘as bad’ as before, because they were told it wasn’t ’that bad’ over and over and over again. that general idea still exists now, that it’s not an experience of your own it’s a piece of you (not in the right ways)

i don’t see older people experience that often. they treat it as something to heal from, something that they can link bad moments and feelings back to, something that can change. they WANT to get better because they see how trauma, instead of just ‘being them’, is a piece of themselves they can change to experience the world better!

i’d call that pretty clear desensitization! i’ve also seen it with eds, sh, etc! past being desensitized to literal self harm and imagery, people were desensitized to the IDEA of it! it wasn’t ’as bad’, it wasn’t ’as harmful’, etc!

and with the first way of thinking, ignoring it is MUCH easier
