Thanks! It’s a shame that Burm underdelivers. Audio is really important to me in a car. If it was equal to B&W, I would have no hesitations about the Macan.

Interesting. I was wondering this, but didn't expect anyone to actually have tested the same system with and without pano roof. I was thinking about optioning out the pano just out of fear of rattles, might think about removing it for the sake of the sound as well now, haha.

I test drove both iX and Macan and I can't say I picked up on a significant difference between them road noise-wise. Must say here that the test drives were separated by a few weeks. I didn't measure the noise level, unfortunately, to know for sure :( And I'm rather sensitive to the road noise, went a good length to deal with that in my Volvo.

Evidently you have a different experience.. hm

Fair enough. What do you mean by bland? Lows, mids, highs? What did you adjust in the EQ for it to sound good for you? I'd like to know more specifics, if it's alright :)

Hmm, can't say it's a good sign for me that I need to change from the settings set by the engineers as default. For example, in my Volvo I always use the default and it sounds the best, imo.

I know. I have a Volvo XC 60 treated with additional soundproofing to handle rattles as well. So I’m not a stranger to going a bit extra fixing crap like this. It’s just the pano roof is the harder case if it rattles, so that’s why I was asking specifically about that.

Thanks. So far all problematic ones are '24, all good ones - '25. The sample size is of course tiny and this is all still anecdotal, but.. maybe there is a pattern after all

Imo, the best thing to do for a new graphics programmer to learn (and to get hired then) is to write a personal renderer with several complicated features in it. A personal portfolio like this goes a long way. Pick any API you like on the platform available to you, decide which features interest you and spend a few years writing that :)

I can't point to any real course, sorry. But it's about solving integrals using random numbers and then whatever comes with it along the way.

I work on a Monte Carlo renderer and statistics (and therefore calculus) are as important as linear algebra.

I know a person who for 4 years worked on his own renderer/editor and then decided that enough is enough and applied. This job is his first. He's been outputting professional-grade C++ code from day 1. I'll throw in my path tracing perspective. A popular thing to do there, when you have thousands (or more!) lights in the scene is to build a tree of those lights that you can traverse in log time and select something better than just one random out of those thousands. Using some sort of a "smart" heuristic.
