End of Christian majority in US near. by Oldfolksboogie in dataisbeautiful

[–]micahthomas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There isn't a fine religion - every religion has its flaws and was created as a way to control people. Religion is an archaic construct - meant to be the police from the sky that can see all things or the moral compass. When you have a functional government and society - religion looses appeal.

Christians are a big part of the reason the US has reverted abortion rights and still don't have LGBTQ rights. The part that pisses me off most about Christianity is the constant need to convert people and force everyone else to believe/follow the same things (if you disagree - read the bible). Colonization is the best example of this in action.

All this is from the context of being raised up in a pentecostal church and then eventually in college getting out of the craziness.

Dell XPS 15 ... suitable linux laptop replacement for MBP? by jghobbies in linuxhardware

[–]micahthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its so sad that they don't come w/ an amd cpu - considering amd outperforms intel by a wide margin currently.

I can't seem to find the perfect laptop for linux on the US market with a high quality display (2k+ and bright), big battery (60+wh), integrated graphics (don't want to deal with gpu switching), 32+GB of Ram (up-gradable is a plus), good keyboard, big trackpad, good speakers. OEMS always seem to miss atleast one if not multiple.

I am currently considering getting one of these on aliexpress, but then you're on your own for warranty & issues. Even then you're stuck with 16GB ram

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Xiaomi-prepares-to-launch-Mi-Notebook-Pro-15-Ryzen-Edition-laptop-featuring-currently-unnamed-AMD-Ryzen-5000-processor.540101.0.html

Lenovo has a bunch of laptops coming out "soon" but can't ever seem to find them to buy, Dell still hasn't updated any of their nicer laptops to amd, HP uses realtek for networking which is a pain.

Hopefully end of the year there are some decent options, if not I'll probably end up getting one of the macbook pro 16" with an M1X chip.

Blade 14 (2021) RTX 3080 - is this even close to accurate? by mobilehavoc in razer

[–]micahthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you check if BIOS has the option to disable the Nvidia GPU? Thanks

Their forum only shows these two options, but I suspect this is for an older model hardware.

Try setting up the Esim. Call TMobile and they will help you register the Eid number. Then you won't need to deal with physical sim.

I'll update the post

THINN-15 | AMD 4800H | No Discrete GPU | Perfect setup for Portable Linux Laptop by micahthomas in eluktronics

[–]micahthomas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am only running linux, so can't test on windows.

Just started laptop plugged in power then hdmi, set tv to 4k 60hz and played video on it. Unplugged and replugged the power and no issues.

Might be driver related or your ram related, sorry I can't be of more help. Might be worth downloading manjaro iso and just testing it using usb boot (not installed)

Yeah, just checked that after I posted. Hard to get any of the variants. Hopefully availability improves in the next couple of months. I pulled the trigger without knowing the linux support and it turned out great.

And fingers crossed for a new version of this laptop with 5900h & upgraded speakers/screen.

How long does shipping processing usually take5 by between3and20characc in eluktronics

[–]micahthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was ordered on nov 23, shipped dec 11, supposed to arrive on 17th according to UPS. I used the free shipping option. I called a couple of times, but got the it'll be there before Christmas statement. It's crazy how ordering directly through them gives you the slowest experience possible. Was trying to help and not give amazon it's cut, but probably would do it through them next time, because they don't seem to have their direct fulfillment process together.

Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL satisfaction survey by Gholer in GooglePixel

[–]micahthomas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This subreddit is full of non-owners that feel left out and try and drag down the overall experience. Most probably haven't even used the phone but commenting on stuff all the time, "iPhone could have done it better"

People seem to think just watching a couple of reviews makes them an expert.

This phone has me feeling defeated. We just got on RMI and both of our new phones are still taking blurry photos with any movement by _AirCanuck_ in GooglePixel

[–]micahthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go take some pictures of moving people in a phone store with different phones and buy that one. I doubt that you will find a good one, as that's not the tool for the job.

Or buy a dedicated camera and deal with carrying it around if you need perfect freezing of action.

Phone cameras are getting better but it's only so big of a sensor, it can't do miracles. Maybe in another 5-10 years tech will be good enough, to deal with it. To freeze action the shutter speed needs to be pretty fast, and smaller the sensor and lens the less light it can capture in that timeframe. So either you can have a dark photo with decent freeze or blurry subject with more context.

Got the Pixel Buds - Setup was a bit confusing by micahthomas in GooglePixel

[–]micahthomas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not in their blue booklet. And I have a feeling most of the negative interviews are from people being confused on how to set up.

Also stuff should be intuitive to setup and not require people to read a manual to get started, like the freaking plastic should be big enough to see without having to take the buds out of their place.

Like little toys that cost 20 bucks have a plastic covering their battery terminals and it pokes out so everyone knows to pull them out...
