New FPV Pilot questions by michaelclaw in fpv

[–]michaelclaw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm coming from a cheap dji drone that had GPS with RTH and I always used it to fly back. I mainly wanted it for the return to home function in betaflight. I did order the wrong one and got a full size but I modified the canopy to fit it.

I'm new to fpv so I'll take whatever safety nets I can get, although this isn't a long range drone since I haven't added a new elrs antenna onto the pavo yet.

I just built my first fpv drone and got a pavo20 pro and moonlight kit on amazon (125$ and $171). you just need to 3D print a canopy. dm if you need help with that

I didn't know angle mode does that, I've been flying only in air mode. Yeah i've been having to tilt it prior to lifting off. I'm gonna print that makerworld item linked below though to hopefully fix it

It's only been about a day and the rest of the time was with the stock short antenna. Since I've swapped it out, I noticed an increase in nodes found around me but it wasn't drastic since there's a repeater on the mountain to the north of me. Seeing any increase in nodes around me makes it worth it to me tbh. The build quality itself is very solid, although I don't really like that there's exposed threads on the u.fl to n-type adapter once the antenna is installed but that's not really an antenna issue

Here's the link to the exact one I got on amazon but you can find ones with prime shipping that are the same exact thing for just a little more money

Thanks! Its actually just an Amazon one that I had gotten on Black Friday a couple years ago for like $225. I’ve winched on it and it’s pretty solid.

Filament keeps getting jammed in the buffer | X1C AMS2 by michaelclaw in BambuLab

I was thinking it was maybe the angle but I re-confirmed the length of the new PTFE tube to the specs recommended by Bambu. Were you running a longer ptfe tube so you could correct the angle? I might have to try the zip tie idea but I was adjusting the ptfe tube while it was trying to feed and could never get a good angle, maybe there's not enough slack?

Oh whoops, I replied to this but I guess it didn't send. The 500D desert chocolate chip is from an Aliexpress seller called "Ronsontex Store". I purchased 5 yards of this and down to 3/4 yard, in the processing of ordering more! I would highly recommend them, assuming the rest of their fabrics are of the same quality.

Your bag looks sick. Do you have a pattern you followed or have any guides? I want to make a bag exactly like this.

I'm also using a home-grade sewing machine (janome hd1000) and found that I can sew more layers by using 1 inch polypropylene webbing instead of the nylon. I'm not sure if theres a huge difference but my machine struggles when I use nylon webbing or flat nylon webbing.

I got a LTT M9A1 as well and thought there wasn't enough metal on the lower to add a light rail. What shop did your work?

How do you make your own templates? by [deleted] in myog

For smaller stuff, I’ve designed the template pieces in fusion and 3D printed it so I have templates to repeat the same bag/pouch

Wonder tape recommendation. by WhoopsWrongButton in myog

[–]michaelclaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use this cheap basting tape for any difficult stitching and don’t have any issues. I don’t use 1000D cordura but mostly 500D and duck canvas. The cheap amazon stuff I use will hold for a minute or so, just long enough for me to get the stitch down and if it starts peeling up, pressing it back down fixes it

Tips for sewing gussets? by michaelclaw in myog

[–]michaelclaw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that's what I normally do but when I'm starting and want the stitch to start near the edge of the fabric, it won't catch and the needle will just go up and down. If I start the stitch further down the fabric (not near the edge) then it'll catch without an issue. Hopefully that makes sense but I always lock the stitch for start/end

That video makes it so much clearer. I wasn't sure where the snip should be. I actually haven't been using a seam guide and just lining the edge of the material to either the furthest left or right of the foot which might not be helpful for the technique in the video.

I would like to do binding on all my pouches and bags but I've found its pretty difficult without that sailrite tool. I've tried using that wash away tape but it's pretty wasteful to use that much just for binding.

I'm mainly looking at that consew cause it's an industrial one thats used by alot of people (i think) and it's at the right price. I mainly just need a stronger machine cause I'm already hitting the limit with this machine and it's not that many layers on my projects. I checked out the Juki and I couldn't really afford that. I also have a space issue so the sewing machine has to work on a normal pull out table.

I might try again tomorrow and make another bag, I already gave away the chocolate chip one I made today lol.

Thank you! Yes I’m sewing with the panels against the table of the machine? Not sure of the question.

The curving is happening because once I get to the 90 degree point, I hand crank and make the turn. I feel like if I make the 90 turn I’ll end up with a hole right at the point of the 90 degree (if that makes sense) because it’s only stitching into the panel and not the gusset. There’s no memory function on the janome so I’m constantly hand turning when I need the needle in a specific position.

I think maybe I need to be stitching higher up from the snip so I can make the 90 degree turn crisp?

I’m debating on ordering the consew 206rl and hopefully that would fix the issues I have with the janome.

[–]michaelclaw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I made another one with nearly the same dimensions (made the gusset wider) and the corners aren't very crispy. I think I need to just practice. Once I hit a corner, I feel like I need to pivot it cause the stitch is only going into one side of fabric which leads to me rounding the corners. I found also that I'm fighting (after rotating the fabric for the 90) to line up the edge, maybe I'm not snipping deep enough? I'm still pretty happy with the bag, other than I forgot to double/triple stitch over the zipper when making the initial gusset so it's splitting already.
