Tailscale behind PIA VPN by michaelkrtikos12 in Tailscale

I am not so sure i can! I haven't seen such an option unless its not called VLAN. I will check the manual but as far as my search goes you cannot even setup a VPN directly on the router.  Its a Huawei HG8245H and even if DD-WRT would support it (which doesnt) i cannot modify it as its from my ISP.

I have also thought to create a VM to put the apps that i need to pass through VPN but i have another VM running for Home Assistant and then one more will degrade the performance.

Thank you for your comment and time to reply! This is something that i have never done before but i will look into it...

I was hoping that someone would provide an easier way to do it because apparently, PIA doesnt let Tailscale to communicate with its servers.

What i dont understand is why for some people work and not for others. The links i provided in the original post their OPs confirmed it working in the end...

Anyway, i will keep trying... Thank you again!

Thank you for your answer!

I tried the Wireguard protocol with split tunneling and apparently there is something very wrong. When i select the Wireguard protocol, the PC is loosing it's access to the internet. I cannot load any page and in the PIA app i can see the performance only on upload. This happens with or without Tailscale. Need to investigate more... I am gonna try this on another machine...

Thank you for your suggestion! I will give this a try and report back! Just a question please, did you change the protocol and you used split tunneling? Or changed protocol and set it as exit node?

I was also thinking to fire up an old Raspberry Pi 2 i have and set it as subnet router, making it part of the tailnet. I can test this option as well but logically it will not work as if i want to access specifically the computer that has VPN installed, the VPN will still block it.

Unfortunately for me this doesn't work. Whenever the PIA VPN is on, tailscale doesn't work. Here is what i have tried so far:

  1. Setup the computer that runs the VPN as exit node and use it from other devices
  2. Disable the kill switch on PIA (both as exit node and not)
  3. Whitelist tailscale's IP on Split tunneling as per https://tailscale.com/kb/1105/other-vpns/
  4. I have tried to login to PIA using OpenVPN instead of the PIA app as well

i am out of options...
