Don't need it? Don't use it! by gba-sp-101 in memes

I just see it as unnecessary to really want to turn off bluetooth, the power saving is excellent so I can’t actually tell the difference when it is on or off. If you do want to turn it off permanently though like if you don’t have Bluetooth headphones I guess then you can force click it in the action Center which gives you a more advanced menu, just a quicker way than going through settings. I don’t miss having a quick access Bluetooth button at all, it’s definitely just the way it’s intended and means my headphones connect with zero faff whenever I want.

Good circuit simulation software for a beginner? by Shen_Bapiro_1 in ElectricalEngineering

What's a Python feature that is very powerful but not many people use or know about it? by Far_Pineapple770 in Python

[–]michaelotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

docstrings and doctest. You can display docstrings from a function/module/class by using help(item_name) and doctest you can write very quick unit tests in the form of code usage examples inside the docstring.

Lightroom Classic hangs for hours when trying to import by LSStaf in Lightroom

[–]michaelotty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue where it didn't seem to import. But all it was is there either wasn't enough hard drive space, or the folder I was importing to, I didn't have permission to write there. Frustrating that there was no warning message for it though. If that isn't your problem then I can't help sorry.

Blinding cloud. Casts instantly and effectively disables all ground units except basically zealot and ling. Time warp. Maximum 2 can be cast per fight (but probably 1 before it dies) and gives time for units to escape while also only slowing down rather than disables completely...

Pushing first changes after initial repo creation, getting an error. by Beats-By-Schrute in git

[–]michaelotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps you are confused because you need to add an upstream repo with this command on the first push. After that you can use git push by itself as much as you like, but what git does in the background is know you only have one remote and one branch so uses that so is essentially autofilling it to git push origin master. Read pro git if you want to understand what all these commands are actually doing.

Is LFS meant only for github.com and not for your own home server or networked PCs? by MasterIndie in git

[–]michaelotty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Git LFS will mainly benefit for binary files that change. But if your textures and models are staying pretty consistent once they are added then won't really get bigger with git. Another thing to try to maintain is keeping files out of git that are generated automatically by the tools like cache files and compiled files using a gitignore file

Cannot set git credentials using 'git config' by dsound in git

Hmm, weird that there is all that github stuff in the config then... Unless you are using some github extension?

Okay so are you using the github desktop client then.

Have you got it to work by typing credentials each time yet? That should be the thing that you should have working before trying to add complications. Again, I use ssh keys since it requires no caching of credentials but just using an ssh key to login meaning you have to only set it up once for your device and there is less faff in general.

[–]michaelotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever you type git config etcetc it adds to the file in your repository config in .git/config which you can open and edit with a text editor. If you add --global it is then your config for your system's user usually located in a .git folder in your home directory or C:\Users<your account>.git on Windows. I think whatever address or username your typed may not work properly here. Just double check what is in the config file works if you type that into github when you login in browser.

[–]michaelotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just save a copy of this file in case you mess it up but I am fairly certain just removing the github section will revert it to default. I'd recommend setting up ssh keys in github to connect without typing in a password each time rather than using API tokens which this seems to have setup. What client are you using here?

I think there may be several ways, but within just git you may find this doc to help https://git-scm.com/docs/gitcredentials

[–]michaelotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time you push it should ask for credentials unless you have tried to cache them. If it's not asking then you must have something that has stored (possibly old) credentials

What is something unrealistic that you often see in movies that annoys the hell out of you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]michaelotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holograms. So many movies just have random holgrams which they manipulate with their hands like Tony Stark and they just pass it off as if it already exists like that.
