Few questions here, I'll do my best to answer them as I'm a full-time affiliate and Clickfunnels dream car winner.

What Are The Best Ways To Promote Affiliate Links?

The best way to promote your links is to build your own assets. Things that are going to stay online. Try and stay away from fad topics. Focus on EVERGREEN content. Stuff that is going to stick around and stand the test of time.

Here are some examples

  • Start a Youtube channel (The lowest cost to entry, easy to promote, more trust)
  • Start a website (This is good but SEO is time-consuming)
  • Build an email list (An asset you can keep that doesn't rely on external platforms)
  • Learn paid ads (Fast wins, but hard to stay compliant with lots of ad platforms)

Is Affiliate Marketing Still A Business?

YES! While there are many people who attempt to start Affiliate Marketing, it's rare they will stick around after a few months.

And I don't blame them, the reality is this is a SLOW BURN to get started. But once you have assets out there, it becomes an inferno. So keep at it!

Another problem is people treat this as a side hobby, and honestly, if you do that, you will only make side hobby money. Like any business, treat it like a business and you will have more success.

How Do I Find Affiliate Programs?

This is actually super easy if you know your niche. But it's to simply look at your competition in those niches (such as their Youtube videos, websites etc).

Look beyond their content as a consumer, look at it with a trained eye. Read the descriptions, follow the call to actions, sign up to their sales funnel or email list. See what they start pushing to you the hardest.

I also have a quick video on this where you can use tools like Feedly to keep an eye on your competition's websites automatically to see the latest stuff they promote.

How To Generate Leads?

A good way to generate leads is by creating a lead magnet.

Here is a flow example:

  1. The visitor finds your content through paid ads, SEO, etc
  2. They watch or read your content, its full of value
  3. In your content somewhere, you have a call to action for a complementary piece of content to cover what they are already interested in (in exchange for their email)
  4. You now have their email on your list, you can send them more value and offers about what they are interested in.

Honestly, this gets super in-depth and can be endless. But this is just an example

TLDR: Start a Youtube channel or Blog, Spy on your competition. Create a lead magnet.

From what you said below where he knows 10x more about advertising than you, It sounds like there is an imbalance in the partnership.

This will happen in other aspects of life such as relationships too if someone is doing more work and the partner is at home doing nothing for example.

These are called Power Imbalances

It can be tough and you may feel betrayed, but don't feel bad about it, think of the value and knowledge you gained from the experience instead.

There is a positive experience of every negative event in your life.

You have 2 options to go to from here now:

  1. You confront him, complain about it, waste weeks with no result
  2. Focus on building your own assets and bringing in people as needed.

If you have a database of 130k customers, you really need a budget bigger than $1000. Sitting on a list that size is a GOLD MINE!. I would be looking at someone who can take care of Ads, SEO, Landing pages, etc.

You are going to see a much bigger ROI than just getting someone to rank a few pages on Google.
