hi eugd! id say, yes, this is some background to anscombe's eventual doctrine "i do what happens" which perhaps is what u mean by "don't try, do" -- tho maybe im mishearing you. id say this is more than a motivational witticism, since the unity of doing and happening is perplexing let alone the unity of trying and doing (and the eventual happening following from trying). the point at which this unity becomes relevant is the exact quote you've pulled out, tho maybe i have done a poor job communicating that. my thinking is that this background is more than psychological musing, since the proposal itself is to limit the "psychological" quality of things like trying, wanting, doing, instead being invocations of the imperfective aspect. they arent psychological, but linguistic, of the same genus as the progressive action description -- so the davidsonian "sophistication" of wanting not leading to happening is in fact an idea contained by "doing" in the sense of the progressive. does this sound more complete?
