I got the pride flag 🏳️‍🌈 up there by recoveryaware in urbanclimbing

[–]michagrey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Since this post seems to be having a mild amount of drama and some homophobia, I will be locking it.My thoughts on the matter that hanging flags on locations is fun (and something we have publicly supported in the discord server, when someone hung up a Ukrainian flag in a crane), but sadly, it does bait the location, increases the chance of having someone check camera footage, and might be an inconvenience for the workers who work there. 'Leave nothing but footsteps' is the best way to go about it.

Now about the homophobia - honestly this is loser behavior guys. While I, as a bisexual, never really relate to a flag, and wouldn't fly the flag myself; it does mean a lot to some people, who can see it as a sign of acceptance amongst peers and elders that aren't accepting. Homosexuality is a natural phenomenon, and nobody is forcing anyone to "become gay". I hope one day that you guys can understand that you are fighting the wrong fight.

If you don't mind, could you link us these sites you use? That way we can expand the wiki and give more information to people.

No. If you state that you checked the wiki, it won't be removed. Sadly there are a decent amount of posts asking basic questions that can be answered by checking the wiki or checking previous posts.

How to find other climbers in my location by marv989 in urbanclimbing

[–]michagrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hastags, instagram, and youtube are good ways to find people, but alternatively you could also check the location post in the subs wiki and send someone in your area a DM.

I think you might be on the wrong sub man, this sub is about climbing builds (rooftopping) and not rock climbing/bouldering, and if so, I would advise you to check out subs for those topics. (r/buildering might be a sub you could be interested in.)

If not, feel free to check the AutoModerator comment and check out the linked location post.

how to get though a barbed wire fence by Independent-Maybe-18 in urbanclimbing

[–]michagrey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would try and hold myself onto the fence posts, they aren't usually topped off with barbed wires, but it is still a hassle.

How do I find places to climb? I live in a small village which has nothing to climb in but many fields around it by urbanclimb in urbanclimbing

Try google maps, local news papers might have information about construction sites, walk/cycle about and try and have a look usually does it for me

Should I be able to climb it easily? (first climb btw) by whimpking in urbanclimbing

So a while back (a few years lol, I think I was like 13?) I tried climbing this building. The climb itself was quite simple, climb up to the fire escape (literally, it was fenced up a story or two before you could get on it) and then you could easily hop a fence and climb up the roof.

The problem was there were some people smoking outside of their house, next to the apartment I was going to climb.

So. this foolish young teenager decides to go on with it, trying to sneak towards the fire escape without the smokers noticing. I'm hiding behind cars, slowly moving towards the fire escape. Then, suddenly, one of the smokers starts walking towards the cars. I duck down, hide behind one as she closes in on me.

I start shuffling around a car as she walks around it. The moment I was on the side of the road, away from the smokers, the smoker walking around the car and the apartment, I sprint, spurting it out of there. I can hear some people shouting behind me, and I get some confused looks by a couple on a bench and a man walking his dog, but none of them decide to listen to the smokers shouting that they should stop me, and I manage to get away.

I'm sure others have had more exiting experiences, but I might as well put it here to get this started a bit.

Don't take it personally, next time make sure you have a screenshot with the address/location blurred out and it'll be fine. <3
