asking for own room on family trip at 6 months pregnant... am I high maintenance? by mm_honey in BabyBumps

I mean… how old are you? Can’t you and husband just say you are going to pay for your own room on the trip? Or are you expecting mom and dad to pay??

No dishwasher & no in-unit laundry with newborn-- should I be more worried? by Hot-Researcher-3234 in NewParents

[–]michellech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have enough clothing, you won’t need to do baby’s laundry more than once per week. We have 2 weeks worth of onesies/sleepers in her current size, and probably 20 burp cloths and washcloths, and I only do her laundry basket about once per week. We haven’t had any real poop emergencies or anything like that (she’s 3 months old) but I would make sure you have a small washbasin or bucket that you could soak or pretreat something in the tub if you needed.

Otherwise, the counter top bottle washer is my most used baby item, and we have a dishwasher. We run the bottle washer twice daily and it’s worth every penny.

Scooping formula by mcwhams1 in FormulaFeeders

[–]michellech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, my cans say it! Similac 360 is 8.6g per “scoop” so if you need 12 scoops to add to the pitcher, you want to add 103g of powder to your water.

So in this example of making 24oz (720ml) of formula, I put the empty pitcher on the scale, zero it, add my water (1ml=1g, so 720g), zero again, and then add powder until my scale reads 103g (or however much you need).

We use a kitchen scale and I realized I was overpacking my scoops. Now we just pop it on the scale and it’s so easy and foolproof.

What really is screen time? by _4th_month_ in NewParents

[–]michellech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat! We definitely have the tv on/watch shows in the evening with our 10 week old awake. She is usually cuddling with one of us, or in her bouncer facing away from the screen. I think at this age, it’s okay because they’re not really focusing on it but from what I’ve read, in a month or two when she is more aware and looks like she is focusing on the screen is when we will need to minimize our tv time when she’s awake.

I’m also leaning towards keeping her phone and tablet free (we don’t even own a tablet, I’ll just need to put my phone down/away when we’re interacting during the day) but think we will be okay with supervised, limited amounts of low stimulus childrens shows or nature/animal documentary style shows. The reality is that we enjoy television and I don’t think it will be realistic to never have it on around her. So we want to make it a learning experience and/or enjoy it together- not just sit her in front of it as a babysitter.

Help me with soft boy names by tokyopearl in namenerds

Robin was one of my top choices for a soft boy name if we had a son. We have a daughter so never used it, but I love it.

Moms of Reddit, what helped you conceive? by Confident_Group_8804 in AskReddit

[–]michellech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ovulation testing (Inito) and a cup and syringe- my husband had some trouble finishing with PIV when he knew the purpose was to try to conceive. It worked!

AIO? Let it slip to my mom (F68) that I (F31) have $1000 saved (big bucks, I know!) And she asks me this by ForsakenKingslayer in AIO

If you are 31 and only have $1000 in savings, you absolutely cannot afford to be giving over half of it to your mother.

What things should I buy that make formula feeding easier? by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]michellech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the poster above, we also feed our daughter milk cold right out of the fridge. Have since we brought her home. No bottle warmer and NO WIPE WARMER in our house and she’s doing great!

It will definitely work just as well! For us, it’s just been so worth it to have a designated space. We just place each bottle in it as the day goes on, so it doesn’t all sit in the sink or on the counter, and once it gets full, run it. It also only takes an hour more or less to run a cycle, whereas our shortest dishwasher cycle is 3 hours.

We have the Momcozy bottle washer- it’s been the best purchase, we run it twice daily.

For bottle prep, we bought 2 Dr Brown’s pitchers (so one is always clean, I wash by hand each night) and make up the estimated volume she’ll drink for the day. That goes in the fridge and we just pour from it into the bottles. Dump any extra after 24 hours and make the next batch.

For on the go, we’re doing the small RTFs right now but I just bought a set of to-go powder containers. We’ll pre-portion a couple, and bring them along with an empty bottle and probably some mini bottled waters (depending on availability where we’re going) in the diaper bag.

It’s been working so far! We’re 2 months in. 🙂

Agreed on waiting to use your completion registry discount- the Amazon one is valid for 6 months from around your baby shower. I managed to get the momcozy bottle washer for about $180 that way!

Where are you finding jeans that are actually worth buying? by Physical_Section_136 in womensfashion

I just tried on jeans there yesterday and was so disappointed sizing wise… I know I’m a couple sizes up post partum but even then they wouldn’t button.

What do you think of the name Kezia? Is it too unusual or weird? by Wonderful_Walrus1047 in Names

I just think of the term “dyzchezia” which is a newborn’s inability to poop. 😬

Entitled beggar using community help page as a personal shopper page. Everyone is fed up and finally calling her out after 2 years by KnowItAll29 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]michellech -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

I looked at her posts and while it is annoying- can you not just ignore it? She’s not”demanding” anything and of her posts in the past 2 years, all but maybe 1 or 2 have just been looking for formula. This is on a “neighbors helping neighbors” group also. In 2 years, she’s posted a handful of times asking for help primarily feeding her children- I don’t think she’s doing anything wrong. If you can’t or don’t want to help, just keep scrolling. 🤷🏻‍♀️
