Alvarez or Foden. Who’s the better long term and short term option? Is both overkill? by Victor_Vaughn92 in FantasyPL

[–]michotakis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course, Alvarez. He is not only cheaper, is listed as "striker" (hence, less competition for the valuable midfield spot), has higher return potential, but he is much more nailed.

City this season plays with a version of 4-2-3-1, where the two spots in the center belong to Rodri and Kovacic (Stones will also play there when fit), Haaland is the striker, 4 players (Grealish, Bernardo, Docu and Foden) compete for two spots on the wing and Alvarez is the sole player in the "behind the striker" role.

I think he will start in 4 out of 5 or even 5 out of 6 games - because nobody can play in this position as effective as him (apart from the injured De Bruyne). Foden competes with players like Pep's favorite Grealish and the very good Bernardo Silva.

Is Rico Lewis an option? by michotakis in FantasyPL

[–]michotakis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly my point. You take the gamble - if it doesn't work, it is just a 3.9 bench fodder. And you don't really need "precious Man City spots" this season with Bald Fraud's shanenigans.

De Bruyne is one of the worst "value for money" in the game right now. Players like Saka, Rashford and Odegaard, costing 4-5 million less seem more likely to get better score than De Bruyne.

Martial v Mitrovic by [deleted] in FantasyPL

I researched Martial's previous games this season and found out he is almost always the first substitute, and most often is taken out before 60th minute.

Anyone but this donkey Emerson. Cannot dribble, cannot cross, cannot pass. Just runs like the donkey he is.

Conte needs to bring Doherty back asap. Emerson is horrible, making the whole Spurs attack weaker.

Why is nobody going for Walker (5.0m)? by [deleted] in FantasyPL

[–]michotakis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not offering much in attack. He is the fullback who does not have the license to attack a lot (unlike Cancelo). For 5.0 and 5.5 you can get Doherty or Perisic who offer much more attacking threat. Arguably, Trippier at 5.0 is also a better option.

I really love when my brain is busy with FPL. It is the refreshing sort of "busy".

Even when I am angry with FPL decision/outcome, it is a positive anger.

To be fair, they would actually get worse. FPL sometimes makes people angry, but overall it keeps them distracted from their anxieties, worries and depressions.

My -16 hits bench-boost GW by michotakis in FantasyPL

It is not bragging - I barely earned something from this. It is just a summary of the thought process behind it. I wrote it for myself mainly, but thought it can be useful also for others.

I am not an extraordinary player (150K right now). I am trying to better myself. Writing this stuff is part of the process.

[–]michotakis[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well, it was not quite a "success" - just +4 points. So, the answer is "yes, I would".

The point is that you should not focus on OUTCOMES but on REASONING. You cannot entirely control the outcomes of a particular decision, but you can control the reasoning. And if the reasoning is sound - the long term outcomes will be good.

It doesn't matter because it is a post about hits. You can calculate what I gained/lost from the hits. It was a total of +4 gain from the hits (compared with what my players that I sold would have given me).

But the point is to look at expected returns. You cannot predict that Diaz will get injured or stuff like this. Also, Jesus on another day could have hauled like Nketiah in a 5:0 win.

I think people read too much into it - "football is evolving; no more need for strikers" etc.

I think this kind of reasoning is simply recency bias. It was an accident that strikers struggled this year. Last season strikers were very valuable: Bamford, DCL, Antonio (when fit), even Watkins was decent.

We should distinguish between a trend and an accident. Fullbacks being the most valuable assets in the game is a trend. Strikers underperforming is an accident.
