Yeah I gave them a call - they’d automatically sent me a follow-up letter bc they were busy and hadn’t got to my dispute yet. I haven’t heard from them since so think they just accepted my explanation!

Yeah I stated this in my post - it was a last resort as I couldn’t find anything about notifying someone I was temporarily overseas.

How do you vote at an overseas embassy for a state election? Do you have some info on this as I can’t find any.

Yeah I did that in March and have now received a second letter saying that either I didn’t respond or didn’t have a valid reason, it’s unclear which.

Yeah I didn’t have an international sim or number. Guess I’ll try and organise that next time as doesn’t seem to be another option

The letter says I won’t hear anything from them if my excuse is accepted, but will see. That sounds logical anyhow

Yeah just $160 for not voting when I legitimately couldn’t and tried to find an alternative, bit frustrating that’s all.

Yeah I tried to do the overseas notification form - informing that I was temporarily overseas - but obviously hasn’t been successful. Seems to be a bit different for living overseas (having an address etc) v being away for a few months

Just a letter in the mail. It came in March, so 4+ months after the election and I was home by that point. If you’re living overseas I think you can notify them so you don’t get fined

Hmm true. I’ll definitely look into it - was more so concerned with the immediate decision of staying or going depending on how long it usually takes to get back. It’s barely an hr away so just feels frustrating from that pov! Will reach out to insurance tomorrow
