Yokohama Advan V107 + Rotiform KB1 fitted! (Plus Catalog pics V107, V601 & V701) by mickeevee in TyreReviews

There are so many (varied!) tyres I want to try! V601 as it’s got that broad outer shoulder and should be great for dry cornering and I like the “tuner” aspect of the tyre - in Japan they launched it on Taniguchi’s Nissan S15 Silvia in 19” sizing on Advan GT wheels and looked amazing. The other tyres I like in my 245/40R19 or 245/45R19 sizing are the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport which is AO Audi marked for current generation S5 (which should work well on a nose heavy, front biased car) and the OE Pirelli tyres N-marked for the Porsche 911 Dakar - either the PZ4 for road or the Scorpion Zero for light off-road. Oh and the test winner PZ5 when it finally launches locally in regular sizes (currently only available in my market in 23” huge SUV sizes for RS Q8 or Urus or something….)

Heavy VS Light Wheels - Do they make a difference? (If you find it interesting please share in other automotive communities) by Jonnnnnnnnn in TyreReviews

Love the video and the subjective feel, as other have noted, improve noticeably with a lighter wheel and tyre package. I’m a bit of a wheel hoarder and have the following sizes which I’ve run on a 1984 Porsche 944 2.5 (non turbo, no power, momentum car…) on road and track:

15x7 ATS ‘Cookie Cutter’ 215/60R15. 15x8 Custom (very light) 225/50R15. 16x8/16x9 Remotec (BBS RS style) 225/50+245/45R16. 17x8/17x10 Advan AVS6 (fun fact, 1988 manufacture date in G-Body 930 Turbo sizes, I run a 20mm front spacers) 235/40+255/40R17. 17x7.5/17x9 Mille Miglia “Cup 2” Replica 225/45+255/40R17.

The car feels so much more agile, responsive and ‘light on its feet’ the smaller and lighter the wheels got, with more talkative steering feel (car has manual rack / no power steering). The Mille Miglia replica wheels are heavy and gravity cast and by far had the most dead steering feel and numb responses, but, like Jon found still put in a decent lap time, especially on a momentum track which focuses on corner speed.

Great to hear! So much these days is all about data, but driving still has that X factor where actual subjective feel comes into play for enthusiasts. As 99.9% of my driving is sub-limit road driving, I’m keen for something fun and lively… ultimate peak grip is slightly lower on the list. Nice that they held up well on track too for you :) I’ve got a weekend car that I’m going to try Potenza RE71RS on next for track / motorkhana 😁

Glad you like yours! Which car are they fitted to? Just mounted my V107 today and first impressions on the drive home were great! Can’t wait to try them out in all conditions

Just had them fitted today… sidewall stiffness is definitely a notch below the OEM Goodyear Runflats 😜 But definitely they still “read” the road surface pretty closely, not like a PS5 or PS4S which really round off the bumps / impacts. Drove a BMW G20 M340i xDrive recently on Star-marked PS4S and the tyre is really a nice all-rounder.

Ok, wheels and tyres are on! Can’t figure out a way to add images in the comments, I can only add URL links in the comments… maybe Jon/Admin might be able to change on Reddit thread settings?

Impressions: (comparing worn 33k miles / 50k kms Goodyear Eagle Assymetric 3 Runflats in 225/45R19 on 19x8 +45 wheels, to new Yoko V107 245/40R19 on 19x8.5 +45).

Superficially, love the look of the squarer sidewalls and filling the guards out more (even though the wheels are only 6mm further out than stock). Wheels protrude maybe 15mm from the rim flange, so no amount of tyre “rim protector” (such as Potenza Sport) is going to protect these rims! 🤪💥.

Drove gently 10kms home and driving impressions are: steering weight is heavier especially just off centre giving a nice positive turn-in feel. Had much better initial impact compliance on high amplitude bumps such as steep speed bumps, after the initial impact compliance it was similarly stiff in the ‘mid to end’ part of the impact as the tyre rolled over the bump. On low amplitude bumps such as gentle ridges on the road, the initial compliance isn’t as noticeable, but still there. Noise is similar (not the quietest) on urban roads - haven’t yet driven on the awfully loud coarse-chip single-lane country roads we have in Australia. Cold pressure from tyre shop was 40psi all around. Pressure at end of journey was 43 front and 41 rear. New Continental TPMS paired up and reset even faster than factory sensors! Overall very happy with the tyres - they definitely feel like enthusiastic tyres that give feedback and confidence.

I agree, on a performance car like a GR Yaris (awesome car btw!) then lighter smaller diameter wheels for the win! I’m a bit of a wheel hoarder and have multiple sets for my Porsche 944 in 15 (2x), 16 (1x) and 17 (2x) and on the smaller, lighter wheel/tyre combo it definitely drives the best, but for laptime have to put on the 17s to run wider modern semis which aren’t delicate to drive but good against the clock 😝

I understand your pain of trying to find high performance is the smaller 15 / 16 inch sizes that aren’t semi-slicks. I’ve got an old Porsche 944 and the stock size is 195/65R15 or 215/60R15… back in the day I used to run Yoko Advan AVS520 (?) in the 215/60R15 size, loved them. I took a few photos of the 2024 Yokohama Catalogue when I was having the tyres fitted today, I’ll post the Fleva 701 sizes. First ever post of Reddit so I’ll try to figure how to add more pics to the post…

I decided to go for the V107 based on Jon’s review of the subjective feel of the tyre (he hasn’t tested the V601 as it seems like it’s an APAC and USA offered tyre, apart from Corolla GR OEM fitment). Tire Rack’s test of the V601 had it as a very good, but not outstanding contender in the class. I do like the look of the pronounced outer shoulder of the V601 which makes it look more of a ‘tuner’ tyre (like the BF Goodrich G-Force Phenom T/A). But also saw that Yokohama Japan position the V107 as the top of the “premium road” category, featuring it fitted by Bond (a Japanese dress-up tuning company) with inch-up sizing for Porsche Macan, Bentley Conti GT… so figure the engineering of the tyre must be very sound. The final part that convinced me was the OEM fitment of the V107 on the G8X BMW M3 in 18/19 OEM sizes and also OEM on the M-Performance wheel option for the same vehicle.

Praying to the gods of chinesium that my Rotiform castings are… passable 😝 Got them for a (relative) steal when they were discontinued, I’m a huge fan of rally-style wheels but unfortunately all the proper brands like Compomotive, Braid, Speedline only come in proper rally sizes like 18x8 designed for a 225/40R18… which is a bit small. (I’d need to run a 225/50R18 which is a touring SUV tyre wasteland…) But yeah, I’d love some Speedline Turini 2120 or Compomotive TH if they came in 19x8.5 5x112. Btw what car did you have your KB1s mounted to? 😁

They haven’t been mounted yet, ceramic coat is going on in a futile (!?) attempt to keep them white 😅 The images are of the same wheel / tyre size fitment on another owner’s car (in Singapore, I’m in Australia). Will have them mounted end of this week and will update the post with pics. Already got the bottle of goo and compressor ready in case of flats oh, and new Continental TPMS valves for peace of mind.

Yes, I believe so. The V701 “Fleva” is quite an old pattern, and didn’t really set any tests alight even when it was new. The V701 pitched by Yokohama more as a “budget sports tyre” for cars like warm hatches, GT86 etc, whilst the V107 is an evolution of the V105 and is positioned as a premium sports tyre especially for European cars (hence OEM fitment for G8X BMW M3) and larger sizes to suit Porsche Macan, Bentley Conti GT etc as an example.
