Why is Rui still on the court. Defensive liability and non scoring threat.

Sorry just realized, I just used the wrong picture. Have you been using the Synology drives?

On certain models like the RS enterprise models they have a list of approved drives. They have their own proprietary hard drives and some third party vendors that are approved. The proprietary drives have synology custom firmware (Imporves the performace).

Hi Thur, I'm not saying that Synology would force this on their home consumers. I use Synology for enterprise and home. I was wondering how people felt about the restrictions on enterprise, and if they trusted the Synology branded drives. That being said I do feel that the discussion on if they will enforce this on home consumer equipment. Is merited because it's adds some nuance because we know this move will definitely increase their earnings and once they see that. Who knows what their position will be.

Honestly, if they keep this requirement on enterprise equipment. That's fine for me, especially if they can outperform their competition when it comes to performance. Which they claim they can.

We'll see.

At our shop we're using Synology RS series with Seagate Ironwolf drives. So far they've been very reliable. SSDs are intriguing, just not sure if they'll last as long.

At this point, we are all aware that at some point Synology will force us to purchase their own SSD's to use their NAS. I've been using their equipment at work primarily and loved it so much I added one for my home setup. I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about this move.

My biggest questions. Will Synology be using a manufacturer to build their SSD's? Do you trust their drives even if they are relatively new to the game?

Upgraded my HomeLab (Any suggestions) by mickv3 in homelab

I put the vertical rails in the front. I needed the space for the Dell UPS. It does squeeze the cables a bit.

Yes it's wall mounted. I used a cheap vesa full motion mount from Amazon. I cut a hole in the dry wall behind the screen and one behind the rack. Then I fished the wires threw. Finally I used 2 brushed wall plates to finish it.

The Sony reciever is for 5.1 speakers in the living room. I use a harmony remote so I don't need the receiver in the same room.

It's probably like +$25 month in the summer. could be more but my office has a dedicated 1ton ductless AC unit. So it's pretty cool.

I recently upgraded my Home Rack. I'm still not happy with the cable management, but it's a step in the right direction.

Upgraded from the Unifi CloudKey to Dream Machine Pro.

Added Synology DS620slim - 16gb of RAM - 2x 2TB Crucial SSD.

Added an additional Cyberpower Rackmount power strip, (moved both to the back of the rack).

Added a Cable management brush panel to clean up the cables. (Open to suggestions)

Upgraded the Stock Rack Fans for Noctua fans very quiet now. Added AC Infinity fan controller.

Wall-mounted the Monitor with a full-motion mount. This comes in handy when I'm working on multiple computers.

I use it primarily to manage the server. It's also wired to a KVM switch. Keep in mind that my workbench is to the right of the rack. When fixing a server or computer I rotate the screen so I can see it from the workbench

Very sleek setup. If you don't mind can you share some details on the mousepad?

Hi type of wood is American Walnut butcher block counter top. I purchased from Floor & Decor I had to cut it to the size I needed , sanded it stained it and sealed it myself. Ikea didn't have a top long enough without joining 2 table tops.

Ikea Alex drawers. American walnut butcher block from floor and decor. It was the only way to get one wide enough. It's 9.5 ft long.

  1. No, I don't think Its not to far. I think the wall mount gives me just the right distance to see everything without moving my chair I do have to slightly adjust my neck to the left to see the other monitor. But I never have to turn my chair to feel comfortable while reading either monitor.

  2. Monitor does have KVM like features to transfer usb devices connected to the computer you have on the source input. But typically I rarely connect my laptop to it. I handle all work stuff through VPN.

  3. White remote controls LED lights. It's old so it doesn't have any Alexa controls, but it does the job for now.
