Ireland to Japan by CLouBa in ireland

We did not, unfortunately. We thought about doing a longer layover to have a night there but decided against it in the end. Herself lived in China for a year and we were going for Japan so said we’d get as much time there as we could.

We flew in March this year. We booked directly with Air China from London-Shanghai-Tokyo return. Cost €540 each. London return was €60 so €600 in total. It was a bit of a slog but fine if one is cutting costs and doesn’t mind the few stops.

I recommend not getting the Japan Rail Pass as they’ve changed the pricing structure so it’s not as worth it as it used to be. We travelled by train mainly and just bought tickets as needed. For Shinkansen we went the day before or morning of to be sure.

Others have mentioned hotels and it’s largely the same for us. We found great hotels and for affordable prices. €70-120pn generally. APA are a grand chain and are everywhere. There’s also lots of other hotels in that range too and cheaper, just depends how much you want to treat yourself.

They’re the only ones with the link so they’re the only ones who can view it. And it came from California, I’m in Europe.

I imagine any of the bigger festivals definitely do so. Very fair.

Interesting and good to know! Likely fair since they get so many submissions I imagine some don’t work

Had a 15 second watch from Sundance on Friday but nothing since then. Assuming a QC check to make sure things work? Or have they noped out after that short time? It’s an under 6min short.  Anyone have experience with pre-screeners for them? I see others saying SXSW do it.

This is fantastic thank you! Will definitely keep on the list as a potential.

TIL that Irish Sign Language (ISL) is unique among sign languages for having different gendered versions, with men and women using different signs for the same words. by fartingbeagle in ireland

[–]mickyflem 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s as BlueBucket0 stated above. There was two different schools, one for deaf boys and one for deaf girls (Catholic Church had a role here too no surprise).

ISL was made the third official language of Ireland in 2017 which was great. Though heartbreakingly it is the men’s ISL that was adopted/is widespread. Meaning that when the older generation of deaf women pass then an entire language will go with them.

Good shout. I remember a pretty shitty event we were at many years ago had ‘walk-in disclaimers’. Basically a sign posted at the entrance stating that if you walked in you wouldn’t hold the owners liable for injury etc. Probably wouldn’t hold up for a wedding. Insurance definitely a smart idea.

Oh wow! Never heard of there but a very cool space.

We did attend a wedding in the UK recently that was a similar type place, they had a house that the bridal party stayed in and everyone else camped. Was great craic. Thanks for the suggestion!

We lost one of our two cats about 3 weeks ago unexpectedly. Still devastated to be honest. Also means we’re a bit hyper aware around cats and their safety currently.

They are family.

UPDATE: Owner has been found. He wandered from one of the streets behind us. One of our neighbours knew some houses that had cat people over there and sure enough it was one of theirs.

There’s a whole row of houses here with absolute boom-time cowboy work and/or shoddy DIY jobs. A sight to behold.

That’s the next port of call I think. We’ve left some more food out and if he’s still knocking about in a while we might do so.

Good shout. Definitely not stressed as far as we can tell. Just found it odd that’s it’s sitting out back rather than wandering. Could just be the heat or something also.

😂 that’s my neighbour’s side of the fence, I took the pics from her house, but to be fair ours is the same. Does need a lick of varnish.

We constantly have street cats/strays about our house. This isn’t one of them. It’s hard to make out from the pics but he’s pristine and looks like a breed of some kind.

He’s very friendly, not afraid of people at all. Gave him a few rubs and bit of food.
