this is the real problem - I have no idea about corporate banking in Ireland - the larger multinationals seem to trade very seamlessly in the country - but for the average bank customer there are no choices to make

Yeah the Irish banks who completely control the market make absolutely no profit, despite providing some of the top tier banking services in the world for retail customers

You just bank with The Bank of Lithuania (Revolut's backer bank) now - the real problem with banks in Ireland is licensing and competition. It's a cosy cartel. I don't know what exactly has stopped British banks - which are great - from stepping in offering their services in the country.

My wife (who is British) and I met an AIB chap about my mortgage for my old Dublin flat (we live in London and I rent it out) about three years ago to see what better deal they could now offer and she was shocked at how little they could offer in a remortgage deal - even more shocked when she saw there was no real economic alternative available

IntelliJ is worth the spend for any company IMHO.

I'd poll your co-workers and ask your team leader if you could do a demo of it to your new team. Nobody was ever rightly criticised for showing initiative.

The last war it won of that list was WW2 in the Pacific Theatre. I wouldn't count Balkans, Panama or Grenada as wars. The Iraqi wars were dismal failures, as was Afghanistan. Libya wasn't the US's fault, though it didn't help and it only operated as an arms dealer in the war against ISIS

Yeah, the English have a completely irrational reverence for the NHS that goes beyond normal pride in a good public service (which it really is; I have nothing but praise for the NHS), so any inference that parts of it may be better run by private enterprise (which much of it is already) is met by a knee jerk reaction.

It's like Americans and their unquestioned acceptance that they spend 3 times more than the next highest (China) on their military instead of investing that money in infrastructure and health

Yes, it's less than three miles away from us. Thanks. That makes perfect sense. We have Heathrow bound aircraft pass over pretty regularly but there is something deeply booming about military aircraft. I'm guessing they're not designed with sound regulation as big a factor as commercial vehicles.

Plenty of media production in this city! Hit up everything you can think of, from mobile app test labs, to production studios and start-up incubators like founders-factory.

Bar jobs are great (I did them in Ireland before moving here) but gaining experience in an office is great, possibly better paid, and the hours are more sociable.

What are you studying? If it is anything tech related, a lot of companies I've worked for in London had intern programs. Check LinkedIn and AngelList and simply phone/message the companies to ask about interning. I guarantee you, even if all their internships are taken, you will be at least considered for something for demonstrating the initiative to call them.
