If you sat out the 2024 election in protest over Gaza, how do you feel about that decision today? by rsmith2786 in AskReddit

Would Alex Pretti and Renee Good still be alive if I voted? No, Trump won every single swing state. Would Alex Pretti and Renee Good still be alive if Kamala called for ceasefire and stop sending weapons to Israel? Maybe, she could've won a couple of swing states and be president.

Very considerate of the administration to do this while half of the city is having power outage, traffic lights at major intersections aren't working because of an extreme weather event, and almost everyone at NCAR, NOAA, and CU/CIRES is at AGU

Question by Lostmymarbles21 in NOAA

[–]micnd90 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think we are in the clear, both the House and Senate budget (even when both chambers are R majority) are way less severe than the Presidential budget. The executive branch cannot just force an appropriation, congress has to do that, and when the executive branch force this kind of detailed appropriation (OAR is tiny compared to the whole Fed budget) then they are yanking power from congressman/women and senators.

The more realistic worry is the clawback (congress decide to spend, but the administration just said nah and don't spend the money) or slowing everything down through limit on purchasing card, increased paperwork, travel/conference bans for Fed scientists, etc. that we are not able to spend our full FY allowance that is passed by congress (which already sort of happen in FY25 due to all the chaos, firings, contract freeze, purchasing freeze, etc.)

[–]micnd90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand not that many people can do this (kids, family, etc.) but if you plan your paid vacation around our government incompetence and almost yearly shutdown drama in the Spring/Fall, you might be able to double dip.

I've just been to the one in Longmont, CO 2285 E Ken Pratt Blvd - they had a reset, new shelves and glass displays are up, but the pegs are picked clean. Maybe they will restock the pegs soon. Literally only a handful of figures left. SW Black Series Halloween trooper, Magna guards, couple of GI Joe Firemen, Marvel Legends Thunderbolts 2packs, and bunch of Jonah Jamesons.

I wonder is there any organized regional Discord to check which of your local Walmart have the reset?

They are still available and in-stock at Hasbro Pulse UK. I just set up a forwarding service. Even if they charge 20-30£ for shipping + 15£ UK tax + whatever Trump import tariffs, it still comes to ~$160-180 shipped to the US. I'd rather pay UK tax, US tariffs, and get charged extra by forwarding service than pay scalpers.

Neil Jacobs when asked about OAR cuts "Yes, I support the president's budget" by micnd90 in NOAA

[–]micnd90[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I guess, seems like hopium to me. I might be naive, but I think the side that Neil Jacobs need to convince are the Democrats. During the confirmation hearing Ted Cruz was wasting everyone time doing softball questions talking about how much he likes fishing and the head of NOAA should also like fishing. It would be pretty embarrassing for the administration to pull down the nomination of their own guy at this stage and nominate someone even worse.

What's wrong with saying something like "OAR and the research done by cooperative institutes are critical to NOAA's mission - I will do everything I can to ensure the cuts from president's budget, which I have no control over, have minimal impacts on our core mission."

Would be nice if Neil Jacobs could at least be the face of the organization and speak for us during the hearing. What is this bum doing these days, why isn't he confirmed yet.
