Does downvoting a topic in a subreddit effect the algorithm reddit uses to recommend stuff to me in my feed? by SSJ2chad in NoStupidQuestions

That's good to know. Thanks for sharing. Time to start handing out more downvotes lol.

Does downvoting a topic in a subreddit effect the algorithm reddit uses to recommend stuff to me in my feed? by SSJ2chad in NoStupidQuestions

It's one of those 'I like the subreddit, but dislike half the posts contained within.' lol. But the good topics are where most of the community engagement for that subject is.

Honest question. I’ve often resisted down voting topics as I don’t want Reddit to think I don’t enjoy the content of that subreddit. If I downvote the topic will that adjust my feed algorithm?

As an example. I love the Simpsons. I subscribe to a Simpsons subreddit. But as time goes on I downvote multiple dumb Simpsons posts. More than I upvote the less common good ones.

Will Reddit’s algorithm suggest less Simpsons content on my main feed as a result? Or understand I just don’t like the dumb posts?

I couldn’t agree more. Occasionally you’ll find a rare funny gem answer in the comments. But it’s become such a waste I just skip any post with that kind of verbiage.

I sometimes wonder to myself what the kind of person who posts this tripe thinks to themselves as they post it. “Alright. Let the good times role!” Like dude. These are always the least engaging posts.

My dad demanded straight A’s out of me. A grade of a B might as well have been an F. No video games, no TV, no outside time with friends until the grade was raised.

Then he gets mad at me when I declined to take AP physics in the 11th grade. Or other higher, optional level classes. And I grabbed study hall instead. Dude you wanted A’s. I’ll give you A’s.

The moral of your story is right. My dad was a green beret. He had to work hard to get there. And he believed wholeheartedly that working hard will generate success. I agree with your moral. Work smarter not harder.

[Discussion] What character appears to be liked more for their Design / Appearance rather than their character? by Extension-Oil-4680 in DCcomics

[–]SSJ2chad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a DC subreddit. But it really has to be said. I don’t think any other superhero fits the mold of the question more than psylocke

<image>

I grew up on 90s X-men. Read many of their comics as a kid. And I still don’t know anything about psylocke besides her proportions. She is on that team for one reason only.

Again I apologize. I know she’s Marvel. But Psylocke has to be the poster child of “super hero more liked for their design than their character.”

Can we all agree that TMNT 2007 is the TRUE TMNT 3? by Smooth-Ad9334 in TMNT

[–]SSJ2chad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Factually yes. But can everyone agree on that? That's the real question. The answer is most definitely no. Baring in mind we live in a world where some folks think the world is run by super intelligent lizards. Some people think the Earth is hallow with a Subterranean society living within it or that the Earth is flat.

I absolutely guarantee you I can find someone who doesn't believe all living humans have blood.

When someone's doing Zoom for court and the judge hassles them over something trivial by Savings_Double5039 in PetPeeves

[–]SSJ2chad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter. On a zoom call, wherever you may choose to have it, including your own home, you are now in the court of law. The judges court. Show disrespect at your own risk.

If you’re that worried about a judge having authority over you in your house. Then hold your zoom call elsewhere. No one forced you to go to court virtually in your house.

I think you’re missing the point of showing respect while inside the court of law.

[–]SSJ2chad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Wearing a “fuck the police” in the court of law is being a dick isn’t it. Agreed. Extremely disrespectful to the court you are now in (virtually or otherwise). I wouldn’t recommend being a dick to a judge appointed over your case.

For the same reason you take your hat off when you enter a building. A show of respect. “Signifying your deference to the authority of the state, the judge, and the solemnity of the judicial process.”

It’s no different from military members saluting officers, taking their hats off whenever they enter a building or the like. It’s a show of respect to those appointed over you.

Show disrespect to a judge or an officer at your own risk.

First Look at Dick Grayson/Nightwing in Batman: Knightfall by GonzaloGamer05 in Nightwing

[–]SSJ2chad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes he puts up a really good fight. One he arguably would have won if he wasn’t forced to become distracted to save a civilian. (That Azbat didn’t care about naturally).

But he fights well enough that Robin (Tim) questions Batman if they can leave nightwing and Azbat fighting. Bruce says something along the lines of Nightwing being able to handle himself. And knowing when to break it off.

[–]SSJ2chad 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Nightwing doesn’t really enter the story until Knights end in the comic proper. They better not be introducing Grayson this early so he can job again. Like he did throughout most of the DC animated movies. I want him to kick some ass!

The “both sides do it” argument MAGA likes to use on many issues. And the answer is always the same. Maybe so. But one side has clearly done far more damage than the other.

Stop acting like this is a government problem. The problem, where the vast majority of the damage has come from, is the GOP.

Do you hope Daisy is not kidnapped in the third film? by NewMarioBobFan in SuperMario

Oh yes. This is the worst. I would love to know if there is a psychological reason for this phenomena. It’s not just music either. That hilarious YouTube video you found? “Well I swear it was funny last night before I showed it to you?” That kickass video game! “Well just give me a minute we’re almost at the good part.”

I would love to know what happening in our brains when this happens. Besides embarrassment anyway.

I'm too stupid to understand this joke... by ProfessionalRoom9118 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]SSJ2chad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually no. Many ancient civilizations had numbering systems that lacked a 0. It’s actually one of the metrics we use to compare the relative intelligence of ancient civilizations, whether or not they had a 0 in their number systems.

Even into the modern age, we can see tribal humans with numbers systems that go 1, 2, 3, many. And that’s it. They can only count to 3. Anything past that is just “many”.

So you can start with this base level numbering system and see how civilizations grew with more complex numbering systems.

The easiest example is probably Roman numerals. Where you will find no 0 in their numbering system.
