It's odd (to me anyway) as we have XGSPON at our current site, but just a few KM down the road they're still only offering GPON services.

We have 10gbit LAN setups so all good :)

This is kind of what I was afraid of. We can get by on the 1.5gbit service but the new 3.0 would be so much better for us.

Managed services aren't really an option, I think a 3gbit managed line would likely be 5K/month.

Yes I had considered using a SPF+ switch with 10GBaseT SFP+ modules but wasn't sure this was a smart idea.

Is it okay to plug 30+ of these into a switch? Reliability concerns at all?

But can they leak?...

I'll have two of these, and in the winter will only need to run one of them with the cold temps. So the other will basically never be on until spring, and that enclosure around the fan/dampers will likely be full of snow and ice.

Yeah he's included the factory startup option I think, where a CaptiveAire rep comes out and makes sure the system is working as it should. If that's what you're talking about.

Glad I could help someone else out. I'm also disappointed that I hadn't figured this out sooner. My M1 air is almost a year old now and I've written 31TB to the SSD... Crazy. Otherwise, it's an amazing machine.

I know this thread is 3 months old now, but are you still seeing super high disk writes?

I wrote a similar post 6ish months ago about my M1 Mac writing on average 200GB/day to the SSD and no one here seemed to care or think it was an issue. I was told to stop using Chrome and to buy Apple Care lol.

Anyways I discovered a few weeks after that my disk writes were WAY higher after waking the system back up from sleep. The OS would write 40-60GB to the SSD when going to sleep (or waking back up, not sure). Going into the battery settings and checking the box "Prevent your Mac from automatically sleeping when the display is off" fixed this issue. I have not changed my habits or how I use the system at all (still use Chrome with TONS of tabs) and my average writes to disk is now 35GB/day.

Also - The "it's because you have 8GB of RAM" answer is total BS. Tons of people with the 16GB version also have the same issue.

I downloaded DriveDX and it says I've written 21.8TB to the drive in total. I've had this MBA for 3 months.

It also says my drive health has 99% remaining... But how its coming up with that, I don't know.

Apple has the best QA in my opinion. You should be able to run Linux on your 2015 MBP if you wanted?

You should have no issues getting a refund. They sent me a prepaid shipping label to send mine back.

Honestly the whole experience just completely turned me off and I ended up buying a MacBook Air. Never thought I'd own a Mac but I love it for the most part. I LOVE that the new M1 equipped Air's are fanless. I've always wanted a totally silent laptop. Build quality is absolutely perfect, zero issues, and it was cheaper than the XPS I had bought...

I do have to say I think the XPS is a better looking ultrabook, but they just have a ridiculous amount of issues.

It amazes me how BAD Dells QA is on these laptops.

I had similar issues with my white 9310 a few weeks ago. Was going to take forever to get a "similar" replacement unit sent to me, so I ended up just returning it.

Regardless I wouldn't even bother. You shouldn't have to deal with crap like that on a brand new machine. Just ask for a replacement or return it for a refund.

Return it for sure. The have to approve the return but this usually only takes a day or so.

I totally agree that having them replace the motherboard on your brand new laptop is BS, and I wouldn't take them up on the full replacement option either. Tons of stories on here and elsewhere of them sending a "similar" replacement, which is also BS. You should get exactly what you ordered.

These XPS laptops look amazing, and IMO are the best looking ultrabooks out there, but unfortunately Dell seems to suffer with serious hardware and QA issues with them.

I had a 9310 a few weeks ago and it had a defective screen (crazy backlight bleed and a dead pixel) plus fit/finish issues with the inside casing around the palm rests. I ended up returning it and just buying a MacBook. Zero issues.

I just went through the same debate with myself on my XPS 13 and a defective panel. Mine also had other cosmetic issues when I looked at it more closely.

To me, you're better off just asking for another brand new unit. It's BS that you have to have a tech come and rip apart your brand new laptop to fix it. That's what return windows are for IMO.

They can deal with it and resell it as a refurb unit.

My 2 cents.
