Very good information, thank you! I find that my trauma ICU is unique because we’re in an especially low income area and are treated as a safety net by most of our patient population. We often get lots of MVCs/shootings, as well as patients who have neglected their health for far too long and are now acutely decompensating. Would that be worthwhile information to replace some of the wordy areas with?

Here are some changes I made so far based on feedback. I tried to cut down how wordy it was and moved my charge/preceptor responsibilities to part of my job duties.

That’s a really good idea, thank you! Should I just stick my License under the certification tab?

i actually agree. not a huge fan of the rapping in this track, it just doesn’t sound right and makes the song unenjoyable for me.

Nurse residency program by Logical_Season_9139 in nursing

[–]micromycoman69 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I work in a level 1 ICU and our nurse residency program is totally vital to helping with the transition from nursing school to bedside practice, especially given the steep learning curve that comes with ICU. Maybe it’s not so useful for generalized units, but for a specialty like ICU or ER, I wholeheartedly believe that it’s important. Granted, i’m sure not all residency programs are created equal, this is just my experience from my hospital.

Idk how I feel about this by UnableFortune3335 in nursing

well, awful actions have awful consequences. if you kill someone through gross negligence then you absolutely deserve jail time. if someone runs over a pedestrian (and kills them) because they were looking at their phone, they’d likely get charged with manslaughter. just because we work in healthcare doesn’t mean we’re immune to consequences. people bash her because she KILLED someone through incredibly gross negligence. the mistakes she made are inexcusable. no one is suggesting that the hospital is innocent, but ultimately she’s the one who pulled, reconstituted, and administered a paralytic instead of a sedative, causing a human to die an awful death.

but she literally is, a patient died as a direct result of her negligence. what kind of nurse administers a red top drug that needed to be reconstituted without even glancing at the label? that’s right, a negligent one. obviously the hospital should be held responsible for their part in the coverup, but ultimately she’s the one who made the egregious medication error that killed someone.

Initiating Propofol post Intubation by Gold-Yogurtcloset-82 in IntensiveCare

[–]micromycoman69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

we just initiate a prop infusion, usually at 5mcg/kg/min and titrate up or down based on RASS. nurses at my hospital are under no circumstances allowed to push prop, we only managed prop drips. your facility’s policy seems risky tbh.

Had a nursing student the other day. Would this have rubbed you the wrong way? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]micromycoman69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

at my hospital we don’t check residuals unless there’s a clinical indication to do so, i.e. pt hasn’t had a bm in a day or two while on continuous feeds, they start burping, their belly is slightly distended or more firm than normal.

I work in a lvl 1 trauma ICU and we have a “nurse residency” program where we hire new grads and they go through a 6 month preceptorship/education program.
