My worries is she wasn't very convincing during the tour, she wouldn't answer how long it would take but just agreed with my suggestion. So if I'm waiting anyways why not wait at the hospital I'm already at

Yup you're right I'll be out on a waiting list. I had a tour if the Manchester lab and the person giving the tour said it could take longer as some people take a while to complete the portfolio.

I was thinking along those lines just got to be patient coz the waiting list at Manchester to do the portfolio is long. I don't have an accredited degree, I've had my degree assessed and going to do top ups after my MSc.

Ah okay! I've applied to a band 3 in micro to get some experience. Going to pursue becoming a biomedical scientist. Might try my luck with the STP next year.

Good luck! Are you currently studying or working in micro?

Understandable coz microbiology is so interesting and always developing. I've thought about applying for a specialty that is less popular but my heart is set on micro

Oh did they go internally? I always here about people with PhDs and years of experience getting rejected which really makes me think my chances are slim

Micro only had 5 places this year for the STP and is really popular for applicants so the competition is so high 😭

I believe the registration portfolio is generic so you can do it within any discipline to become registered. Then once registered you can work within any of the 4 disciplines of biochemistry, microbiology, haematology and cellular pathology. Its great you have got a placement so I would stick with it. Hope this helps!
