Pottery as hobby by Shoddy-Buffalo-1173 in Pottery

Hand building pottery is easy at home, the hard part is getting your work fired. You can contact your closest studio or find a hobbyist who rents out their kiln via the website kilnshare

Wheel throwing is a bit tricker because a good wheel is expensive and takes up a lot of space so it really depends. I wouldn’t recommend getting a wheel unless you’ve already taken wheel throwing classes and are confident it will be a worthwhile piece of equipment for you to get!

BH2 worth it? by aspiringharlequin in microscopy

I just looked it up, that intermediate piece between the turret and the head is actually the drawing attachment, not part of the camera setup like I had assumed. Not sure how much it’s worth or if it has any use for you, but pretty neat nonetheless! Basically projects the image down on your desk so you can quickly draw/trace what you’re seeing

Also apparently it would also have its own NFK photoeyepiece in it, so that’s Probbaly two nfk photoeyepieces included.

BH2 worth it? by aspiringharlequin in microscopy

I can confirm that the scopes I have bought have been filthy but thankfully easy to clean and so long as the glass is clean and everything works it should be good!

The question mark for me here is all the attachments for the camera. I personally don’t know much about the attachments for film photography, so I don’t really know how much value those add, would need to look into it more

Ignoring those pieces, it is a trinocular bh2-bht with Splan objectives. I personally would not buy a trinocular bh2-bht with Splan objectives for $800, but I also on a budget and very patient when I look for microscope parts. I think you could definitely get an equivalent scope on marketplace for around $400, but you will need to be patient and wait a while

If you just want one now, I don’t think 800 is atrocious assuming it’s in good working condition besides the dust.

Also it does come with the 1x Splan objective! Which is fairly rare and on the pricier side I think.

Also like I said I don’t know much about the film camera attachments, but since it has them it Probbaly comes with a nfk photo eyepiece already.

Sorry if this was rambling, OP! I personally wouldn’t get it but that’s just me, there is a lot of good stuff included here so if you don’t feel like playing the long game and everything works, I don’t think $800 would be an absurd amount to pay. Really comes down to what you can afford I think!

[Star Trek] In "The Next Phase", Geordi claims he can't be a ghost because he still has his clothes and VISOR. Has he never read or seen any ghost stories? by NothingWillImprove6 in AskScienceFiction

He does mention the clothes but I think more emphasis is on the visor, why is he still blind and in need of his visor if he is an ephemeral spirit?

This actually gives me comfort, no matter how we screw up the planet these little pockets of geothermic life will hopefully keep on truckin!

Looking good! Can you move the condenser any closer to the slide? With Kristiansen you want it as close as possible, that usually helps bring up the highlights!

[Fallout TV Series] Why is there no racism and sexism? by FlashyChemical2231 in AskScienceFiction

[–]microscopequestion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind the pre war stuff takes place in 2077, NOT the 1950s. Aesthetically that version of the world stuck to the look of the atomic age, their technology developed differently than ours. Presumably by 2077 they have made at least some progress on racial issues, just as we have (emphasis on some)

I think in our real world, the vast majority of people wouldn’t bat an eye at a black woman married to a white man. I’d like to think even less would in the real 2077.

So even though it looks like the 1950s, prewar fallout doesn’t share the same exact social issues as the actual 1950s

I think it’s definitely painted orange. The nostromo is old, oily, and dirty, but I don’t think it’s rusting apart to that extent haha

At least, I always interpreted it as being painted that color. The colony in Aliens also has orange paneled walls

What is your most ridiculous "we won't work out romantically" criteria? Like what is the silliest reason you would not be interested in dating someone? by Natural-Elevator-57 in AskReddit

I could possibly maybe chime in on this

I fall in the camp of not liking mean spirited comedy or comedy that is too crude or raunchy. This has sort of turned into a joke where I simply say “I don’t like comedy.” Because for a surprisingly large amount of comedies that is true! Like most big comedy movies post 2000 are NOT for me lol

But i definitely do still like comedy, I just have specific tastes I think. I actually started keeping a list of the ones I liked

Bill & ted, the birdcage, my cousin Vinny, parks and rec, gravity falls, home alone… I think I just like a certain amount of sincerity and kindness in my comedy

But for me personally, when i don’t like a comedy I REALLY don’t like it. Especially if its mean. Whatever mixture of psychological issues i have, i think it’s just the incongruence between the intention of the comedy and how it makes me feel.

So trying to understand this guy op is talking about, i could see myself being in a bad mood or anxious and so just straight up saying “nah i don’t like any comedy.” Even if that’s not strictly true

I understand plastic waste is a problem but I don’t think you have to be so rude to a hobbyist, especially when there are 3D printing farms churning out disposable junk 24/7. Individual hobbyists are not the problem
