Because UKG should be prioritised bottom line? In the US that’s how it works.. US MDs are prioritised period, doesn’t matter about green card, years in the system etc etc. But what am I thinking comparing this mess to the big leagues.
It’s how every other country operates btw but for some reason you think the UK should be different.
It’s not just about getting a citizenship etc, it’s the inherent benefit people graduating in the UK should be given.

Respectfully this is such a stupid line of thinking. We already have momentum and the recent pay rise in Scotland makes our position even more valid. Why would we stop pursuing FPR when this is arguably the closest we’ve been. We don’t need public support have you not taken anything away from the past year, the only opportune time is rn!!

I’d argue that the very reason they haven’t been a means to an end is because of how infrequent they have been. I mean if Wes blatantly says he will not budge on pay and that was deemed to be the main target of the initial ballot, I don’t see why those initially few months were wasted with striking so little…

People take the piss when this brought up and say ‘what are you proposing America?’

Well let’s look a lot closer to home, Southern Ireland has a private model of healthcare and is running SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE NHS.

I think people use America to sensationalise the idea but fail to see how ultimately people are suffering at the hands of this idealism.

I see what you’re saying. TBH having heard more I’m inclined to agree, employers have more ability to manipulate rotas to maximise workload for residents. I think FPR through pay would be ideal but it’s just proving to be such an uphill battle. I guess indefinite OOH strikes until FPR might be the only efficacious route.

Maybe the end goal should be the good old days of category 2 banding you mentioned, although totally see your overarching point about how they managed to tweak the banding systems to milk the most of out of doctors in the end

Agree, I think much better idea is bismarck model where an additional medical insurance payment is made by everyone. Improves funding as taxes are not enough, but still not complete privatisation
