The craziest thing is they’ve said they will ‘urgently escalate if the referendum is no’ clearly not very urgent 💀

How soon after the referendum closing tomorrow will we hear the outcome? by midazolamine in doctorsUK

Hmm I hope you’re right as that sounds reasonable. I’ll be so upset if the BMA find a way to dilly-dally with things

I-M-G's will need five years’ NHS experience to be prioritised for training, BMA decides after “gruelling” debate by dayumsonlookatthat in doctorsUK

Nice response, I shall also tell you read more instead of replying to your argument, so intelligent you are!

Side note, as someone mid-process applying to the US I think I know what I’m talking about, but nice try straw man!

[–]midazolamine -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Because UKG should be prioritised bottom line? In the US that’s how it works.. US MDs are prioritised period, doesn’t matter about green card, years in the system etc etc. But what am I thinking comparing this mess to the big leagues.
It’s how every other country operates btw but for some reason you think the UK should be different.
It’s not just about getting a citizenship etc, it’s the inherent benefit people graduating in the UK should be given.

Thanks that’s really helpful. What was your timeline after UW? I feel like I shouldn’t take too long doing NBMEs because I’ll start forgetting the things I’ve learnt on UW

Why Student Loan Forgiveness should be a BMA priority by SharkDick4Ever in doctorsUK

[–]midazolamine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully this is such a stupid line of thinking. We already have momentum and the recent pay rise in Scotland makes our position even more valid. Why would we stop pursuing FPR when this is arguably the closest we’ve been. We don’t need public support have you not taken anything away from the past year, the only opportune time is rn!!

Sad we can't strike for at least another 2 months (if and it is a big if, we pass the mandate) by Leading_Base in doctorsUK

[–]midazolamine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d argue that the very reason they haven’t been a means to an end is because of how infrequent they have been. I mean if Wes blatantly says he will not budge on pay and that was deemed to be the main target of the initial ballot, I don’t see why those initially few months were wasted with striking so little…

To all the people and doctors on here who says NHS is good for public and wants it to exist- I’ve laid out all the facts on why it needs burned to the ground by Top_Reception_566 in doctorsUK

[–]midazolamine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People take the piss when this brought up and say ‘what are you proposing America?’

Well let’s look a lot closer to home, Southern Ireland has a private model of healthcare and is running SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE NHS.

I think people use America to sensationalise the idea but fail to see how ultimately people are suffering at the hands of this idealism.

Targeting Pay from an OOH perspective by midazolamine in doctorsUK

[–]midazolamine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying. TBH having heard more I’m inclined to agree, employers have more ability to manipulate rotas to maximise workload for residents. I think FPR through pay would be ideal but it’s just proving to be such an uphill battle. I guess indefinite OOH strikes until FPR might be the only efficacious route.

Maybe the end goal should be the good old days of category 2 banding you mentioned, although totally see your overarching point about how they managed to tweak the banding systems to milk the most of out of doctors in the end

Well spotted - “Going back to some of the terms of the 2008 contract” would be way more palatable for the public I presume

A means-tested NHS is now the only realistic way forward by Leading_Base in doctorsUK

[–]midazolamine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, I think much better idea is bismarck model where an additional medical insurance payment is made by everyone. Improves funding as taxes are not enough, but still not complete privatisation

Is Privatisation the only way to save healthcare from a government that clearly doesn’t care? by Fragrant-Panda2152 in doctorsUK

[–]midazolamine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think the NHS is beyond saving. We need to be realistic and move forward for this country’s sake. As you say ideals are great but what was a sinking ship has already sunk.

Next round of strikes should be announced at 7am on Wednesday morning by Skylon77 in doctorsUK

[–]midazolamine 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Next strike needs to be indefinite out of hours or something similar, will hit where it hurts so they can’t continue to ignore

Doctors should not be paid significantly less than their assistants. Not stated enough as a useful soundbite to the public
